When I heard about HELLBREAK LA, I thought, “Great, yet another haunted house.” But then I was told that it was staged in the vacant, run down, and somewhat historic Sears department store on Santa Monica Blvd. in Hollywood. That peaked my interest. Not needing anything more about the haunt, I was game, just based on the location. Giant vacant industrial buildings are creepy just by themselves, let alone in the dark.
Upon cuing up in line, I came to learn that there was a story waiting for me being told behind the giant steel doors. What waited for me inside was a prison where the inmates were being used for experiments. I could hear the occasion “all clear” crackling from the ancient overhead speakers indicating that the staff believed their “issues” had been contained.
Stepping just feet inside the prison walls, we were greeted by a gentlemen that would set the tone for the whole evening… The Warden. Who welcomed us… to hell.
HELLBREAK LA runs through October 31st. For hours, directions and ticket info, visit hellbreakla.com.
