Almost Acoustic Christmas: Photos, recaps, interviews, and more!

Punk rock icons, Green Day, were forced to cancel a “secret show” they had scheduled for this Friday (June 22) in Burbank, California. After thousands of people were anticipated, the city denied adequate permits for the show due to safety concerns.

These were not safety concerns that had crossed the mind of Billie Joe Armstrong. Earlier in the week the Green Day frontman tweeted calling the performance a “surprise rock n roll sex party” that was “clothing optional” and encouraged fans to bring their own booze.

Despite plans for their secret show going awry, Armstrong said in a recent interview that Green Day had no such problems with the undertaking of their three new albums–Uno!, Dos! and Tré!. The frontman stated that creating the three albums “is just a crazy idea that happens to be working really well.”

The songs just kept coming, kept coming,” Armstrong explained. “I’d go, ‘Maybe a double album? No, that’s too much nowadays.’ Then more songs kept coming. And one day, I sprung it on the others: ‘Instead of Van Halen I, II and III, what if it’s Green Day I, II and III and we all have our faces on each cover?’

While some bands might find it hard to write even an EP to fulfill their record label contracts, the prolific rock veterans couldn’t convince their label to count the album trilogy as more than one.  “Believe me, we asked,” Armstrong said. “There was no getting around that.”

“The record company have been great about it, just stoked,” the frontman continued. “People get so caught up in not trying to do something new and creative: “Let’s just put out an EP.” We said, “Let’s do the exact opposite, something dangerous and fun.”
