Almost Acoustic Christmas: Set times | Program | Venue Rules | Tickets

In the heart of ever-changing Downtown LA, The Last Bookstore is in fact one of the only existing consignment stores for books, CD’s and records in Southern California.

The Last Bookstore got its start in 2005 as a modest, small scale bookstore located in a loft. Since then it has moved twice, with the store currently residing at 453 South Spring St. It is continually evolving in size and content, and provides Angelenos with a place to trade in old books and records with the hopes of finding new ones to add to their collections.

If you’re looking for a vintage record or rare book that you can’t find anywhere else, or if you’re interested in discovering a cool spot to hang out at during the week, The Last Bookstore may be just the place for you.

The Last Bookstore was recently named in Flavorwire’s “The 20 Most Beautiful Bookstores in the World,” and for good reason. When you first enter the store you’ll notice a small room lined with shelves of CD’s and books, at $1 each, against the backdrop of a stunning mural created by Augustine Kofie.

On a recent visit with a fellow KROQ promo crew member, we stumbled upon copies of Homework by Daft Punk and License To Ill by the Beastie Boys before even stepping foot inside the main part of the store. This small entryway leads to an enormous space lined with white pillars, quirky chandeliers made up of bicycle tires with descending light bulbs, and comfy, oversized leather chairs scattered throughout for your reading pleasure. Even the check-out counter is artistic as it’s held up by stacks of actual books which you are warned not to touch.

Not only does The Last Bookstore have a vast collection of used books to explore, but its record collection is one to be envied. With thousands of records from just about every genre you can imagine, the music selection is so impressive it has its own Facebook page. All records are in good condition, and it is highly likely you’ll find something that suits your taste. If you’re looking to sell or trade a huge collection the store may make a house call to see what you have.

For all you caffeine lovers, there is a coffee shop conveniently located inside the bookstore with Organic or Turkish Coffee for $3 and a variety of hot teas for $2. The store also provides an outlet for musicians and writers to share their work with an audience every Monday in a Speak Easy Open Mic Night. This same stage, located inside the store next to the coffee shop, also welcomes writing workshops, book readings, and performances from local talent on a daily basis.
