Either we’ve just happened upon a highly-competitive time in musical history or our musicians are bored. Recently, Jack White brought up his beef with the Guinness Book of World Records people for not putting his “shortest concert ever” into the book; it wasn’t a viable option. But White decided that he wants to use the most metaphors in a concert. His recent try was rendered uncountable.

Now the Flaming Lips’ quirky Wayne Coyne–who bottled up his collaborator’s blood for his Record Story Day project–wants to break his own World Record by playing the most amount of concerts in a day. Currently, Jay-Z broke that record in 2006 with seven concerts and seven cities.

Coyne is planning to attempt his concerts on June 27th with eight shows across the American South. He tweeted that he’s interested in getting bands like Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes, Grimes, and Ke$ha to join him.

In a press release, Coyne explains his motivations:

“Like when the Sex Pistols did their one and only American tour, the weird mid-south (Memphis to New Orleans), has something very absurd about it when contrasted with radical visionary musicians. … Elvis and Jazz were at one time radical, but are now mainstream tourist attractions. … I don’t remember if I was asked or if I volunteered. … But, I’ve accepted the job of, not DRIVING, but commandeering the Magical Mystery Merry Prankster bus. … I’ve accepted the attempt at breaking the world record of performing 8 shows in 24 hours. And I’ve explained to the music freaks at MTV, VH1 and CMT that I am not a host. … But, I always liked the way Jerry Lewis would get all sweaty toward the end of his yearly telethon. … To play and sing Flaming Lips songs at 8:00 in the morning… Well… I’m open to new experiences…”

MTV will stream Coyne’s shows in conjunction with the O Music Awards.
