What do you get when you combine thousands of people in wacky costumes, treacherous obstacles on a nearly four mile course, and lots and lots of mud? Give up? It’s the Irvine Lake Mud Run!
The KROQ promo crew was at beautiful Irvine Lake bright and early to catch the first few waves of runners in all their muddy glory, and to pump them up with awesome music.
This year’s Mud Run consisted of a grueling 5K complete with a steep uphill sprint, log-jumping, mud pits, and a giant water slide that spit runners out into a cold pool of, yep you guessed it, more mud. Teams from 2 to 20 competed in the run dressed as characters from Disney movies to your favorite superheroes. Unfortunate weather conditions provided runners with another obstacle, but the wind and sporadic sprinkling didn’t keep them from having a blast and giving the course their all!
While the Mud Run participants were in it to win it, they also ran to support a very important cause. Proceeds from The Irvine Lake Mud Run benefit the Gavin R. Stevens Foundation to find a cure for Leber’s Congenital Amaurosis (LCA). For more information on the Gavin R. Stevens Foundation, LCA, and how you can help, click here.
If you weren’t able to partake in the madness of this months run, you can register for the Summer of Mud run at Irvine Lake on June 23, 2012. Check out the official Mud Run website for all the details. We’ll see you there!
