One place not to miss on the Sunset Strip is On The Rox.
This little known 21+ venue above the famous Roxy Theatre has a variety of local indie acts and touring artists gracing it’s stage every week. The intimate spot also hosts tons of exclusive events and Roxy after-parties. People are often reminded of rock and roll history that happened there, like late night hang outs with John Lennon and John Belushi’s last visit in 1982.
On The Rox offers a full bar (try the new Roxy beer), a corner stage, DJ booth, stripper poles (yes, two of them), and an awesome sound system. When you walk in you’ll notice the bar to the left, which takes up about half of the space, couches and seating with tables to the right, and historical photos documenting it’s legacy of past performers hanging along the walls. When you’re there check out the picture of the late DJ AM, properly placed next to the DJ booth in the far back.
The staff at On The Rox are friendly, laidback, and attentive. Melody usually works the bar. Drinks are good and reasonably priced by Hollywood standards. When entering, nine times out of ten you’ll meet Stephanie, the bouncer. Consider yourself lucky if you get to meet her, she’s awesome.
Last year, KROQ Locals Only had The Western States Motel residency every Tuesday in November. KROQ also had an insane Kevin & Bean singles party there titled “Love On The Rox.”
Recently, acts like Fitz and The Tantrums, Semi Precious Weapons, Chasing Kings, Dante Vs Zombies, and our very own DJ Jeremiah Red played there. For more show info, go to The Roxy Theatre’s website and follow On The Rox on Facebook and Twitter – that is if you aren’t following them already.
