The Flaming Lips Request Ke$ha’s Blood For New Album

The Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne has some blood on his hands, but it’s not as morbid as one might think. The eccentric indie-rock frontman is releasing an epic Record Store Day collaboration album called The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends.

The album, which will come in “picture disk form,” includes songs with Ke$ha, Chris Martin of Coldplay, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeroes, and a song called “Ashes in the Air” with Bon Iver which was just released.

And in true genius-weirdo form, Coyne told MTV Hive that a few releases of the exclusive album will include vials of blood from some of the musicians.

[pullquote quote=”I don’t have everybody’s blood just yet, but I collected quite a few vials of blood and it’s actually sitting in my refrigerator as we speak.”]”What I’m going to try to do — and I’m collecting stuff for it as we speak — is I’m going to try to make a record that has every person’s blood in the record,” Coyne explained. “I don’t have everybody’s blood just yet, but I collected quite a few vials of blood and it’s actually sitting in my refrigerator as we speak.”

“I’m going to try to take that same concept and put little bits of everybody’s blood in the middle of this record. Like a glass specimen thing.”

“You don’t really realize how many people are afraid of needles until you say, ‘Hey, I’m going to send someone by the show tonight to get some of your blood,” continued Coyne.

Only five or six of the sanguine-themed albums will be released to what Coyne dubs  “Interested rich Flaming Lips people.”

Coyne said that his two favorite collaborators to work with were Bon Iver and Ke$ha.  Rumor has it that Coyne enjoyed working with Ke$ha so much, he’s in talks to collaborate on her newest LP.

“I’m talking with Ke$ha about doing some tracks on her new record,” Coyne told Rolling Stone. “She’s a lot of fun and crazy and open to ideas and she’s creative. She’s all these things that you don’t know.”
