A tragic member of the infamous “27 Club,” Kurt Cobain committed suicide at the age of twenty-seven in 1994. The husband, father, celebrated artist, and grunge icon would have been 45-years-old on February 20th.

Conspiracy theories abound about the nature of Cobain’s death, but one thing is for certain: Cobain was a gifted man with a forward-thinking perception on life who died too young.

Former guitarist of Hole and Cobain’s friend, Eric Erlandson, wants to honor this part of the late Nirvana front man with a fifty-two chapter book called Letters to Kurt.

And, provocatively, he hasn’t consulted Hole lead singer, Courtney Love, about the process.

It just wasn't feeling right to write a memoir-style book and this one just came out of me a couple years ago...It felt like the right way to go, but at the same time, I had a lot of hesitation. At some point it just started to click and I started to honor it.
Out April 8th and published by Akashic Books, Letters to Kurt will contain creative writings and, according to an interview Erlandson did with The New York Times, “reflections on rock’n'roll, drug abuse and the loss of Cobain.”

“It just wasn’t feeling right to write a memoir-style book and this one just came out of me a couple years ago,” observed Erlandson. “It felt like the right way to go, but at the same time, I had a lot of hesitation. At some point it just started to click and I started to honor it.”

Shockingly, considering the drama surrounding Love and her relationship with Cobain, Erlandson stated that he hasn’t talked to Love about the book.

“Up until September of last year, October, she was asking me to play with her. But I felt like there was no transformation in our relationship at all,” revealed Erlandson. “So that kind of worked its way into the book. I never mentioned to her that I had written the book, and I’m sure she’s heard of it now.”
