Long Beach-via-Fullerton Locals Only legends Cold War Kids had a few big announcements recently. First was news out of the band’s camp that original guitarist Jonnie Russell decided to part ways with the band and head back to school. Former Modest Mouse guitarist Dann Gallucci joins the band in time for CWKs to start on album No.-4 “that [CWKs] will do for the first time in our own studio in San Pedro with Dann as guitar player and producer.”

Nathan Willet and Co. also dropped “Minimum Day/Minimum Mistake,” “A-side/B-side” style single, over on their web site for free. The A-side, “Minimum Day,” is quintessential CWK’s — scuzzy, bouncy bass lines and big, jangley old-school guitar.

But I’m burying the lead here — the video features interpretive dance from an extremely attractive, tattooed, nose-ringed woman just feeling both songs.

In addition to shacking up in San Pedro to record a new album, Cold War Kids have announced a quick late Februrary to early March tour, setting up for three nights in a row in three West Coast towns — Portland, Seattle and San Francisco. The quick tour will probably give the band a chance to test out the new music and integrate Gallucci into CWK amazing live shows.

Watch dancer Julia Fenton’s other video for the “Minimum Day” comedown track, “Minimum Mistake”, below. Both tracks are available for free at the Cold War Kids website, here.
