Chris Cornell Covers The Song That Made Whitney Houston Famous
As we’re sure you have heard, Whitney Houston died last week. Since her untimely death, Houston has been blaring from car stereos everywhere, the media has inundated the public with tributes in her honor, and countless covers have appeared online. Heck, even KROQ’s Bean mentioned Houston in his latest Bean’s Death Corner.

We, however, found a Whitney related piece that’s really worth giving a listen to. On February 16, during a private fundraising concert for President Obama held in San Francisco, Soundgarden front man Chris Cornell performed an amazing acoustic cover of Houston’s “I Will Always Love You,” which is a cover of Dolly Parton.
Before he begins, Cornell is heard muttering, “I Just learned this, so when I mess it up, just forgive me.” It takes the audience a second to recognize what he is singing, but as soon as they do, applause fills the auditorium. Cornell may have been afraid of “messing it up,” but his fears are unfounded. From the crowd’s response, he delivers.

The wording in this is very confusing. Please note that this is a Dolly Parton song which Houston covered. Saying that Chris did a cover of Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” is not giving credit to the song writer. Also, Parton hit #1 twice with this song as a solo artist and once as a duet with Vince Gill. Houston took a famous song and made it legendary, but giving her sole credit for the songs popularity is wrong.
