With her music video for “Video Games” clocking in over 18 million views and “Born To Die” crushing 10 million, Lana Del Rey is poised to be the next big thing. Seriously.

Often fueled by heartache, her incredibly soulful voice flows like lava over lyrics laden with smoky sex appeal.

She's Nicki Minaj in Lana Turner's body.
The Guardian on Lana Del Rey
According to The Guardian, “She’s Nicki Minaj in Lana Turner’s body.”

Born Elizabeth Grant, this 25 year old New Yorker is now on the cusp of becoming a household name. Lana’s following has grown more rabid by the day. Although new to most of us, she’s been a solo artist since the age of 15. Her first 3-song EP was released back in 2008 to little fanfare. With an undying love for her craft, Lana released her first self-titled full-length CD in 2010.

Lana appears on Saturday Night Live tonight (1/14) and Letterman on February 2nd to promote her album Born To Die due in stores January 31st.

In an article with Complex, Lana reveals her true feelings about her self-made videos.

No, I found and edited all of those clips myself. In the last four weeks, I’ve had to hire copyright specialists to reach out to people to ask for approval for those clips, but I found them ten months ago by searching keywords on YouTube. It’s not like the videos are that good. I’d rather them not be up, but whatever. They’re f*cking weird. It’s not like I wanted the videos to look that way; it’s just what I was working with at the time. I’m not sure it’s a perfect representation of what I would have chosen if I’d had more money. [Laughs.]

After watching “Video Games,” you’ll likely be asking one particular question. So, in advance, here’s her answer.

I haven’t had anything done at all. Anyone who’s known me will tell you that. I’m sorry, but I was living in a trailer park for a few years. I didn’t even have enough money to buy Coco Puffs. It’s not like I crawled from under the bridge and got surgery. I’m quite pouty. [Laughs.] That’s just how I look when I sing.

We’re looking forward to Lana’ s first major label release [Interscope], due in just a few weeks. When she comes through town, she’ll likely sell out every seat.
