why the hell does coachella insist on making this lineup more mainstream/hip-hoppy every year? #disappointed

Hudson, it’s not mainstream if many do not recognize a large amount of bands on the line-up. “Hip-hoppy”? Rock is not the only music genre in this world you know.
Hey, if you don’t like the festival, don’t go or even talk about it at all.
    PEACE.

im not looking for an all-rock lineup but this festival was built on a certain type of music, and it is the reason why it is one of the big 3 festivals in the US today. I’m completely fine with including electro/techno music, acoustic music, etc in the lineup, but when you close out coachella with two rappers and intersperse stuff that you find on KISS FM rather than KROQ, it takes away from the vibe that coachella is known for

Right to the point of why after going for the past six years, me and my friends will not be making the trip. The vibe and the line-up has changed to the extent that it has become just another trendy music event. It did have a certain taste of music in the past, but now it has become predictable and boring. I do like the addition of Kasabian, Arctic Monkeys, The Vacinnes, Buzzcocks, Kaiser Chiefs, Mazzy Star, and Real Estate, but closing with Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg? The Black Keys are now a headliner at Coachella on the same par with Radiohead? The Black Keys would be fine in a small venue, but headlining Coachella???? As bad as The Killers! Time to find another festival, but it will be sold out, and that is all that matters to Coachella now, and that becomes more obvious every year. A must attend has become a must avoid.

People with idiotic complaints like yours tend to become irrelevant in the end. It is what it is and you won’t be able to do a single thing about it, except complain of course. You don’t like it, then you won’t go. Fine with me. There’s a reason why these bands were asked to perform; so the fans can ENJOY, not complain.

      January 10, 2012 11:24 am

so your saying that goldenvoice just said it was sold out to freak people out ? or so they could buy the combo ? cause i mean crap i missied coachella last year not gonna miss it this year so im gonna have to pay up

      Blackout | KROQ.com
      January 10, 2012 12:40 pm

Just spoke with Goldenvoice, and you’re right… they are sold out of GA and VIP for week 1. Sorry about the confusion, but I was originally being told by the powers above that ALL tickets would be available on Friday. You should go to week 2 anyways, celebrate 4/20 in style!

      What???
      January 10, 2012 11:52 am

It does say sold out here:
      http://www.coachella.com/festival-passes

I really hope you are right though and there are non shuttle combo tickets still left.

      What???
      January 10, 2012 1:24 pm

That doesn’t really make sense if they have GA tickets to sell with the shuttle combo, they have GA tickets they could sell, just trying to milk people for money forcing them to buy stuff they don’t need. I already have a campsite for weekend one and friends wanted to get tickets as well and now they have to pay an extra $50 for something they don’t need.

What band kicks more ass than the Black Keys?! Coachella has always been a festival that has focused around 3 things: 1. The band that had the biggest year (i.e. Black Keys) 2. An established band that is making a random appearance (i.e. Radiohead) and 3. A WELL-ESTABLISHED hip-hip act (i.e. Dre and Snoop). If people do not like the acts, simply do not go. THIS IS NOT A KROQ CONCERT!! If it were, we’d see Rise Against, RHCP, Sublime with Rome…etc. This is an art festival…enjoy the new along with the old and everything in between. This lineup will kick ass just like every other lineup has.
