With only three new movies in cineplexes this weekend, it looks like Mission Impossible will be #1 again because these movies are small and somewhat interesting films, but they’re not going to put a dent in the box office. This week we’ve got Roadie, Beneath the Darkness, and The Devil Inside.

Roadie:

This is a dramedy about a roadie who has spent 20 years on the road with the Blue Oyster Cult. Ron Eldard, who’s a great actor, plays Jimmy, a Blue Oyster Cult roadie, who returns to his hometown to his ailing mother. Complications arise when he falls in love with an old friend, who’s now married to his longtime arch-enemy.

Beneath the Darkness:

This is an interesting film about a group of teenagers who watch their best friend get murdered by the local town hero, who they then try to expose as the vicious killer that he is and try to get people to change their opinion of him. Dennis Quaid stars as the bad guy. This looks good.

The Devil Inside:

This looks genuinely scary! If you’re like me and The Exorcist still makes you wet your pants a little bit, even though you’ve watched it so many times, this exorcism film looks pretty spooky. It doesn’t star anyone that you probably know and is shot in Italy, but is about a woman who becomes involved in a series of unauthorized exorcisms because the Vatican won’t allow you to videotape exorcisms, but they do.

They’re a combination of spiritual and scientific exorcists that help her discover what happened to her mother, who was also an exorcist, and she allegedly murdered three people during her own exorcism. It looks really unnerving. I’m surprised they didn’t save this one for Halloween time, but that’s my pick.

The Devil Inside wasn’t scary at all and it was just overall a really bad movie. At the end of the movie everyone in the theater sounded upset. waste of an hour and a half
