What was your favorite album of 2011 and why?

NICOLE
My favorite SONG of 2011…”Walk” by the Foo Fighters.

There was so much good music all over the place this year, I could barely keep up. Musically speaking, there was never a dull moment. However, out of all the songs that came out this year, the Foo Fighter’s “Walk” was, by far, the song that meant the most to me. I had so many “moments” with that song that if given the opportunity, I would have its babies. In fact, it was the song me and 8 of my friends listened to the morning we ran with bulls in Pamplona, Spain. It made us brave. I went as far as to tattoo some of the lyrics on my chest. Yes, very close to my heart (and my boobie).

2011 was another phenomenal year for music. Fleet Foxes, Black Keys, Adele, Dawes, Black Lips, Gillian Welch, Wild Flag, Wilco, Paul Simon…. my list of favorites goes on and on. Trying to decide on just one proved difficult so I went to my iTunes to see which album I had actually played the most all year.

What came back was “Rolling Papers” by Wiz Khalifa. From Pennsylvania, he turned his love of the Pittsburgh Steelers into the #1 song “Black And Yellow” which the team then used as their anthem all the way to the Superbowl in January. Wiz’s songs were all over the radio since the album dropped in March. “No Sleep,” “Roll Up,” and my favorite, “Rooftops.”

SLUGGO (DOUG THE SLUG)
Toss up – BLACK KEYS/El Camino and M83/Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming. They’re a perfect KROQ mix – rock and synth. Perfectly 2011.

KAT
Can’t pick just one.

The Black Keys – El Camino – The whole record is solid. Sexy and rockin’. They just keep getting better.

M83 – Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming – First listen I was hooked by “Midnight City.” Beautiful record beginning to end and how can you not love a band that brought back the saxophone?

Gotye – Making Mirrors – I can’t stop listening. The duet with Kimbra “Somebody That I Used to Know” is insanely good.

Don’t have just one. I loved Neighborhoods by Blink, Wasting Light by Foos, Watch the Throne by Kanye and Jay-Z, If Not Now, When? By Incubus, El Camino by The Black Keys, Turtleneck and Chain by Lonely Island, and Hell: The Sequel by Bad Meets Evil.

Things I’m still listening to from last year: My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy by Kanye, and Rise Up by Cypress Hill. I also listen to The Mission (M is for Milla Mix) from Puscifer a lot.

And Gleeber by Glee doing the songs of Justin Bieber.

These insights into who the DJs really are makes me love them all even more. They are true music lovers and it shows every day when they come to work.

I agree!!!!! Face To Face’s latest “Laugh Now…Laugh Later” was an awesome album with their signature sound and Trever’s angst-ridden, yet adult lyrics. I also loved the following CDs this year: Decemberists “King is Dead”, Blink 182 “Neighborhoods”, Strokes “Angles”, Social Distortion “Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes” and Dropkick Murphys “Going Out in Style”

Endgame–Rise Against, Give The Drummer Some–Travis Barker, Neighborhoods–Blink-182, All At Once–The Airborne Toxic Event, Hats Off To The Bull–Chevelle……so much new music, so diverse, all awesome. At the beginning of the year there was an article on this site about all the new music that would come out this year and I have to say that it did not disappoint one bit. Endgame and Give the Drummer Some came out the week before the L.A. Marathon and were really nice additions to my playlist to get me through that dreadful weather!

Screaming Bloody Murder by Sum 41, Gold Cobra by Limp Bizkit, and Tyler, the Creator’s album Goblin was the best of the year. Just saying.

Couldn’t agree more with Kat’s List. I wish they would play “Somebody that I used to know” on Kroq. Amazing.
