Last.fm Trends: Blur To Be Honored At The BRIT Awards

UK 90′s Britpop legends Blur are to further cement their status in music with the prize of Outstanding Contribution to Music Award at the 2012 BRIT Awards.

Damon Albarn and co. will pick up the award at the ceremony on February 21st, joining previous legends such as U2, Queen, Paul McCartney, Sting and The Who – all who have won the award.

Last.fm Trends celebrates Blur’s legacy by looking at how they’ve scrobbled to date.

Blur, formed in the late 1980′s, are closing in on a fantastic landmark of 50,000,000 total scrobbles. Despite not releasing any music since 2003′s Think Tank, they still get scrobbled around 140,000 times a week (though this has dipped from around 160,000 this time last year).

The anthemic “Song 2″ is by far their most popular track. Listened to by 11,048 listeners last week (6,522 more listeners than second placed “Girls & Boys”), it has been scrobbled a total of 5,590,778 times.

It comes off of 1997′s self-titled fifth album, which is incidentally their most scrobbled album with 6,909,022 plays. Blur also features tracks such as “Beetlebum” and “On Your Own”, both of which helped define them as one of the most influential bands of the 90′s and onwards.
