Almost Acoustic Christmas: Photos, recaps, interviews, and more!

It’s that time of year where you could walk into any drug store or shopping center and here all those classic Christmas songs you grew up listening to. It’s a pretty exciting time of the year, but sometimes hearing the same old Christmas songs can get a little boring. So allow me to do you a favor and take a break from the cliché holiday classics, and share with you a list of awesome punk, pop punk and rock renditions of holiday classics as well as some great originally written Christmas music.

Mix it up this year and blast these songs during dinner, while having guests over or any opportunity where you can disturb your friends and family.

The Vandals – Oi! To The World

Oi to the world! When I think a punk rock Christmas, I think The Vandals. If I had to chose any song from their Christmas album, I might have to go with the title track. Any family opening up Christmas presents to this album is an awesome family in my book.

No Doubt – Oi! To The World

Although The Vandals wrote the song, I feel obligated to include the awesome cover No Doubt did of this as well.

The Ravers – (It’s Gonna Be A) Punk Rock Christmas

Often confused with the Sex Pistols, this song is actually done by The Ravers.

TVTV$ – Daddy Drank Our Xmas Money

I hate it when my dad does this!

The Ramones – Merry Christmas (I Don’t Want To Fight Tonight)

Come on baby, let’s not fight tonight and just listen to The Ramones. I truly love this band. They are one of the few bands I can play on guitar for a dude that can’t play guitar.

Bad Religion – Joy To The World

First Noel

Bad Religion and Christmas?! What! Although it may not make a ton a sense, they do really great Christmas covers at least, so great that I added 2 of them!

New Found Glory – The Christmas Song

Fenix TX- Feliz Navidad

Here is another one of those fantastic pop punk bands. It was released on Kevin and Beans 2000 Christmas album The Real Slim Santa.

MxPx- Christmas Night Of Zombies

Everyone is obsessed with vampires, werewolf’s and zombies these days. Since zombies are clearly way cooler than vampires, here is a Christmas song about it!

Blink-182 – I Won’t Be Home For Christmas

Tis the season to offend your mom. This being one of my favorite Christmas songs, what kind of person would I be to not add it to my list?

I need to include this one too. You might not want to play this one at work. Unless your boss is rad.

Happy Holiday’s You Bastard

Weezer – We Wish You A Merry Christmas

This is the first track from Weezer’s EP from 2008 appropriately titled Christmas With Weezer. Also, who the hell eats figgy pudding?

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Deck The Halls

Weird Al Yankovic- Christmas At Ground Zero

Ok, so Weird Al may not be very punk rock, but I grew up listening to the guy. He is hilarious and brings joy to many. That being said, he without a doubt belongs on my list!

The Dickies- Silent Night

Besides the version that Eric Cartman did, this one might be my favorite.

Stiff Little Fingers – White Christmas

A bit of a different direction than Irving Berlin had intended, but great none the less.

Rancid – Xmas Eve (She Got Up And Left Me)

Lastly on my list, the one and only Rancid! Oh how I admire the work of Tim Armstrong and Lars Frederiksen and one of the sickest bassists out there Matt Freeman. A KROQ favorite as well as myself.

This concludes my list of awesome pop punk and punk rock Christmas songs. I can only hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed putting it together. If I left any of your favorites out, leave them in the comment section!

That’s a great list Nick! Definitely some classics!! But, while doing your research for this post, did you find any other versions of Silent Night? KROQ used to play one, that was live, whom I thought sounded like Pennywise. But every Christmas I search the internet and can’t find anything like that, so it must not be them. If possible, can you post a list of some other Silent Nights you’ve found? Thanks again for the list!

If you were going to include Weezer and even Weird Al you coulda also included “Last Christmas” done by JEW or “Don’t Shoot Me Santa” by The Killers…or even “Great Big Sled.”…I love The Killers =) That’s all….goodnight, travel well

No Fairytale of New York by The Pogues? It’s not their most punk song but it’s still one of my favorite Christmas songs. Also Father Christmas by The Kinks has a punk spirit.

  4. Freda Jobs says:

Great list, it`s just missing `Christmas is a pain in the arse` by the Accelerators!

Hey Darlene, the song you’re talking about wouldn’t happen to be Bad Religion would it? I stumbled upon this live version of them covering Silent Night. I think I recall hearing this on KROQ’s Twisted Christmas during the holidays.

That’s it Kevin!!!!! Thank you!!!!! I haven’t heard for a few Christmases, but hearing it now, I totally remember the feed-back and pause towards the end. THANK YOU!!! You made my day!

Great list! I love obscure Christmas songs. Here’s a playlist of some lesser-known Christmas music:
