She & Him Spread The Holiday Joy With New Album “A Very She & Him Christmas”

Indie-pop duo She & Him are bringing Christmas lovers their take on one the most celebrated holidays of the year with the release of A Very She & Him Christmas.

The duo, led by two of music’s most impressive artists - Zooey Deschanel (She) & M. Ward (Him), have dropped two full length LP’s to date and have become one of the most loved indie bands of the last few years. Led by the strength of their last two albums, Volume One and Volume Two, She & Him take a crack at a holiday record and the result is a clear success on many levels.

Serving as the bands third full length record, A Very She & Him Christmas is more than a gift for new and old fans of the band. Inspired by quintessential holiday albums of the past by the likes of The Carpenters, Vince Guaraldi, The Beach Boys & Elvis Presley, She & Him set out to bring new emotions out of old songs on their first attempt at a Christmas LP.

The emotion is certainly present and as a whole, the record comes off as a fittingly quaint, sublime holiday record that preserves the bands sound, and is extremely easy to sit back and listen to while reflecting on the season. While there is no question that the album encompasses the essence of their sound, it is a slight departure from previous releases as the record shows the duo stepping back slightly from the layered, lush aesthetics that highlight their signature sound.

The way in which the record differs from previous releases is where it thrives, especially on the more stripped down songs like The Christmas Song, where only a guitar and vocals take center stage. The inclusion of  album’s more upbeat numbers like Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree also hold up strong in comparison, balancing out slower songs and making the record very dynamically complete .
