Movie Beat 11/4/2011: The Son Of No One, Tower Heist + A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas

You’ve got three new films coming out for your viewing pleasure this weekend including The Son of No One,
The Son of No One:
In limited release is The Son of No One, starring Channing Tatum as a young cop who has to work in a precinct in the working class neighborhood where he grew up.An old secret in that neighborhood threatens to destroy his life and his family. Also starring in the film is Ray Liotta and Al Pacino, along with Juliette Binoche. That’s quite a cast! I like cop movies, so it’s worth a look.

Tower Heist:
This is the new film from Brett Ratner, the man who brought you Rush Hour and Rush Hour 2, and he’s producing the Eddie Murphy hosted Oscars this year, and coincidentally, Eddie Murphy is the star of Tower Heist! this also has Ben Stiller, Matthew Broderick, and Casey Affleck. Originally, Eddie Murphy wanted to make an all black Ocean’s Eleven. Well, there’s only one black dude left in it, and it’s Eddie Murphy.
A group of working class guy have to take on a wealthy businessman, played Alan Alda. They all got burned in his ponzi scheme, so they conspire to steal 20 million dollars from his penthouse apartment in the tower that he owns, hence the title, “Tower Heist.” This is Eddie Murphy returning to his old form, from 48 Hours and films like that.
A Very Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas:
Kal Penn, John Cho, Neil Patrick Harris, and our very own Patton Oswalt star in this film. It’s the return of Harold and Kumar 6 years after Guantanamo Bay, but this time in 3D, and they have to save Christmas or something. I’m not quite sure of the premise exactly, but they’re very stoned. That’s all you really need to know.
Apparently in this version, Neil Patrick Harris is a straight man pretending to be gay in order to get more tail. this is my pick for the weekend because Patton is currently sitting next to me.
