Four very different movies open in theaters this weekend including The Mighty Macs, Johnny English Reborn, The Three Musketeers, and Paranormal Activity 3.

The Mighty Macs:

This is a small budget, feel good movie, for children of all ages about a man, played by David Boreanaz (of Bones and Buffy/Angel fame), who coaches basketball at an all girls Catholic college. The team has no gym, no uniforms, the school itself is in danger of being sold, and yet the coach is able to steer the girls to their first national championship.

True story. Maybe. I think it would be a lot more compelling it it was, so I’m just going to assume that it is. “They’re Catholic girls who want it” is how I’d sell this movie. Put that on the poster. They missed out on an opportunity. “No uniforms and no shame. Catholic girls who want it, but they didn’t know how bad they wanted it til they got it. The Mighty Macs.”

Johnny English Reborn:

Johnny English is back! Did you miss him? Johnny English is a British comedy that is a spoof of the James Bond movies. We don’t get enough James Bond spoofs these days, I think. Johnny English is played by Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean) and the first one was a good sized hit over in the UK, so they brought it back. Johnny English Reborn is the sequel.

Rosamund Pike stars alongside Rowan Atkinson in this movie. Oh man, I love me some Rosamund Pike! This also stars Dominic West and Gillian Anderson. Johnny English takes on an international assassins organization that’s trying to hunt down the Chinese premiere and Johnny English is the only thing standing between the Chinese premiere and death.

The Three Musketeers:

A lot of movies have been made about this book. This one looks like a big budget, blown up version of the story. I love these movies. I love the swashbuckler movies. I love the swordplay kind of stuff. I am looking forward to this film, not to mention that Milla Jovovich is also in this film as a female ass-kicking adventurer that joins the musketeers in their attempt to save the French throne from being seized.

Great cast – Christoph Waltz is in this, Ray Stevenson, Matthew McFadyen. I can’t wait! I love the musketeer movies! I’m definitely gonna check it out this weekend.

Paranormal Activity 3:

Of course, it’s Halloweentime, so we’re gonna see a spate of horror films coming our way. Paranormal Activity 3 is the first of that genre in theaters this weekend. This is a prequel to the original, so it takes us back to the 80s where you see the  girl who was haunted in the first film. You see her as a little girl being haunted by the spirit that followed her throughout her life.

It’s being advertised with the slug-line, “The last 15 minutes will screw you up for the rest of your life.”
