Movie Beat 9/23/11 – Dolphin Tale, Abduction, Killer Elite, Moneyball, Red State

A number of movies are in the theaters today including Dolphin Tale, Abduction, Killer Elite, Moneyball, and a special screening of Kevin Smith’s Red State.

Dolphin Tale:
This is the story of a young boy who befriends a dolphin who lost her tail in a crab trap. This is a true story, people.

The dolphin lost her tail, so Morgan Freeman builds her a new tail. (Kevin Smith and his daughter are probable going to rush out to see it this weekend. “I’m gonna get really high, watch this movie, and bawl like a baby.”)

Abduction:

I’m gonna cry when I watch Abduction because they’re turning Taylor Lautner into an action star. Oh, stop it! He’s fine until he opens his mouth and then it blows the whole fantasy for me.

Killer Elite:

Jason Statham, Clive Owen, and Robert DeNiro star in this film. DeNiro kicks the crap out of a guy. That’s all you need to know about the movie.

My pick of the week:
Moneyball:

Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill – True story about Billy Beane, general manager of the Oakland A’s, who puts together a baseball team by using a computer.

Jonah Hill is his computer analyst who helps him build a team on a budget and get the best players for the job. With these two guys together, it should be a fun movie to watch.

Red State:

Red State is in selected theaters – it’s at the New Beverly this weekend or go to coopersdell.com to find it in a city near you. It’s also on VOD (video on demand).
