Does the name Nirvana ring a bell? We sure hope so. And if your brain’s really in gear, you’ll remember this week (September 27th, 2011) Nirvana‘s Nevermind will officially turn 20. To commemorate this momentous occasion, this whole week we’re going to feature free MP3s from Seattle’s grunge scene, as well as several special guest playlists on such topics as favorite Nirvana songs.
But first, let’s dig in the re-release of Nevermind.
So what exactly will one find in the massive reissue? Let’s just say beginners will find an exhaustive introduction, old fans a taste of the stunning recordings, and casual listeners a chance for one-stop shopping.
Just watch the video below detailing the bonus material as part of a 4 CD, 1 DVD, Super Deluxe Edition.
Pretty cool right? We’re most excited about the plethora of rarities such as pre-Nevermind demos recorded at producer Butch Vig‘s Smart Studios, B-sides, unseen concerts, and the slew of unreleased recordings.
Speaking of unseen and unreleased footage, the EMP exhibit Nirvana: Taking Punk To The Masses showcases all kinds of rare things from the Nevermind era. Our friends at KZOK ran through the exhibit and gives his point of view on the artifacts and items on display. Click on the image below to view the gallery.
You can check out the exhibit for yourself at EMP, all the info is here.
And as for Nirvana free music, the Sub Pop Records site has two songs you can check out.
Nirvana “About A Girl”
Nirvana “Scoff” (Live)
Come back tomorrow for a spotlight feature on Kurt Cobain’s musical influences plus a free MP3 from the Melvins.
