Three new movies open up today, but the box office might be won this weekend by an older film being re-released in 3D. This week there’s The Lion King 3D, I Don’t Know How She Does It, Straw Dogs, and Drive.
The Lion King 3D:
This is coming back in 3D and people are predicting it’ll be #1 at the box office this weekend because of kids and 3D, but it’s a good movie. It’s another in a long line of Disney films where the parents die. It’s brutal!
The main voices are Matthew Broderick, Jeremy Irons, and James Earl Jones. Irons does a brilliant job as Scar.
I Don’t Know How She Does It:
This stars Sarah Jessica Parker. She’s a mom and a wife, but also the bread winner. This is Carrie Bradshaw after she gets married and has two kids and is also the bread winner of the household. I don’t know how she does it!
It also stars Pierce Brosnan, who plays a business associate who she’s also very attracted to, so now she’s got temptation at the office as well. Now how’s she gonna do it? Christina Hendricks is also in this, but still, you’re on your own, Seabiscuit.
Remake starring Kate Bosworth, James Marsden, and Alexander Skarsgard. It’s the story of a young couple from LA who relocate to the deep south and they have a bit of a culture-shock. Her ex-boyfriend starts to harrass the couple and eventually things turn violent. The pacifist writer (Marsden) has to defend his home against southern yahoos.
My pick of the week:
Great film if it weren’t for that pink font! I think it’s the same writing they use for the Sandals resort.
Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, and Bryan Cranston star in this film. Hollywood stuntman, played by Ryan Gosling who moonlights as a getaway driver for the criminal underground, finds himself on the run after a job gets botched. They decide to take him out and he has to protect himself and his neighbor (played by Carey Mulligan), and her young son.
