Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Karen O To Premiere Upcoming “Psycho Opera”

If you thought Yeah Yeah Yeahs‘ Karen O couldn’t get any more strangely cool – think again.
Miss O has recently created what she calls a “psycho opera.” The performance, titled, “Stop the Virgens,” will open October 12th in Brooklyn, and features some very talented collaborators.

The “psycho opera,” directed by Adam Rapp and co-created with KK Barrett, will be produced by The Creators Project, which is an ongoing global arts initiative dedicated to supporting musicians, artists and filmmakers who are using technology to push the bounds of creative expression.
Also contributing to this unique experience, Yeah Yeah Yeahs bandmate/guitarist Nick Zinner and DJ/composer Sam Spiegel (whose brother is famous director Spike Jonze) will act as music directors on the project.
The performance will also feature musician and Beastie Boys collaborator Money Mark, Jack Lawrence and Patrick Keeler of The Raconteurs, Yeah Yeah Yeahs drummer Brian Chase, and actress Lili Taylor.
Karen O recently released a statement describing “Stop the Virgens,” saying:
“I have a pretty good idea of what the psycho opera is about but I wouldn’t dare try and put it into my clumsy words. I’m hoping to create an original live experience, “ it should feel like a psychedelic ride laced with catharsis
” . There is emotional cost to our narrative so we’re aiming to engage the audience, this piece isn’t aiming to be all about spectacle or abstraction though there is good helping of both in the production. It’s aiming to have all the good stuff of escapist entertainment with a few sucker punches to the gut along the way. I’m in the camp that needs to discover and take risks, sometimes it’s with the promise of something special and new, sometimes it’s to stay awake, either way it’s much more stressful with all the uncertainty but worth the pain in the end.”
“Stop the Virgens” will run from October 12 through the 22nd at St. Ann’s Warehouse in Brooklyn, NY. To find out more about the production and ticket information, check out their website!
