KROQ Callers Go Crazy For Save Ferris During 90′s Weekend

We’ve been rockin’ nothing but the 90′s the past few weekends and judging from the feedback we’ve been getting, you guys and gals are loving every minute of it.
This past Saturday, we played a Save Ferris song that got so much positive feedback on the request line, I knew that I needed to inform the rest of the world of its greatness.
Here are some of the questions that I had to field once we played the song:
“What’s that cool song you guys just played?”
“Wow! what a great tune! Who was that?”
“Dude, that ska song you just played…I need a name. That sounded sick!”
“I know it’s Roq of the 90′s, but was that song new?”
“That was one bad-ass song!”
Save Ferris‘ “Goodbye” was featured on the band’s first full-length album, It Means Everything (1997). The band formed in 1995 during the height of the third wave of ska music that erupted here in the So-Cal area.
The band went on to tour with many other big So-Cal opening for bands such as The Offspring and Reel Big Fish.
The lead singer, Monique Powell was also featured as a guest vocalist on Reel Big Fish‘s “She has a Girlfriend Now” and the band also made an appearance in the film 10 Things I Hate About You.
Sadly, the band broke up in 2002 and it seems like there is no glimmer of hope of a reunion happening.
In my opinion, this is the band’s best song. You really couldn’t ask for a more perfect ska song!

What the hell are these kids listening too when they don’t even recongnize a good song like this

Well, Kroq does not usually play Save Ferris or other bands that you may be familiar to everyday. Kids today are most likely listening to what is popular or a good sound, which is why so many calls were asking for this particular song. I would love to hear a mix of 80′s, 90′s and today’s rock music throughout the day, but that’s not always the case.

don’t forget about Starpool….The guys from Save Ferris with Alan Meade from No Doubt. Playing around OC and LA on a regular basis.

Many of the former members are still playing as Starpool. They’re _definitely_ worth a listen if you like ska.

If you love Save Ferris, check out STARPOOL. It’s pretty much all the members of Save Ferris minus Monique. They are a FANTASTIC band. Alan, their lead singer, used to be the co-singer in No Doubt back in the day. They are headlining the Yost Theater in Santa Ana next week. Check it out!

Save Ferris played at the very first concert that I went to. Didn’t know them too well at the time, but absolutely loved their music afterward. I was so glad to hear them during the 90′s weekend on KROQ

Starpool is stupid. Save Ferris was awesome. This Alan guy only sang with No Doubt like once in the 80′s at a High School talent show or something. Why would anyone say that he was in No Doubt? Even the No Doubt guys don’t recognize that! There is NO COMPARISON between stupid waste of my money Starpool and Save Ferris, so please stop….but sooooo happy that KROQ still loves SF. They were a HUGE part of my pre-teen years. There will never be another!!
Awesome

Though!…Sylvia did touch on an important fact that I connect with as well, “They were a HUGE part of my pre-teen years.”… I feel the same way… Except I was already 16 and discovered “The Hubb” in what use to be my DOWNTOWN FULLERTON local SKA spot. Damn those were goodtimes… What happened Jamie…

Hey Sylvia, do your homework. Alan Meade took over for John Spence (the original lead singer of No Doubt til his death in 87) and sang til 89, when he quit the band due to starting a family. that’s when Gwen took over & the guys & Gwen still love Alan til this day & always have him out at the shows when they’re playing (As well as acknowledging him as a former band member as well) Also, again, do your homework & there’s tons of demos & recordings from over the years of his work in the band with Gwen singing backup!
Absolutely no reason to attack him nor the Save Ferris guys personally. They have moved on & have the ultimate line up. Save Ferris’ main & only song writer & the amazing vocals of Alan Meade, a genuine & real star!
stop being so bitter

Right. On. Guillermo. I haven’t had a talk about this wonderful band since the day they broke up. It was with my Ex-Girlfriend Rachel when she informed me of their break up via IM after the fact that we had both went and saw them play the O.C. Fair a week or so earlier. I was like DUDE!!!!!! We had gotten that last luck opportunity of being graciously able to experience one of Orange County’s sickest SKA bands play a super skankin’ set! I seriously busted out some moves down in the floor section though it was all seating, literally! Just plastic white seats everywhere…but we were 13th row center! I can clearly remember monique saying during the set that she would love to get naughty on the mic but that cause the bleachers were free to the public she didn’t want to offend any parents of children. I was like ugh! So hot!!! They played and I experienced. I still have my ticket stub too! It’s cherished. Too bad I wasn’t on the radio over the weekend cause that would’ve been a great surprise track to hear on air. I’m glad the new youth is reacting as I once did when it was BRAND NEW. Yeah, dude. Save Ferris, No Doubt, Reel Big Fish, Less Than Jake, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Goldfinger, AQUABATS!!! and although they weren’t particularly SKA they were sure as hell in the scene! Homegrown and MXPX!!! Man, I was all about my mid 90′s!!! That was my era right there! So many different genres of music to choose from…and I chose them ALL!!! Was so many different styles all wrapped up into one. Loved it. Like I loved this band until the break. Now it is a beloved memory that I love to go back to in a breathtaking reminiscent state… I’m not gonna hate on this new generation of kids. SKA and MOD is something none of these kids could ever really know about unless their parents are actually still cool in the ways of living the life style still. Its one thing for some asshole parent to love The Specials or Madness, but to still rock the RUDE BOY style and all, well, then I would be like, yeah. Until then I had to leave this novel comment on the soul premise that Guillermo quoted, ““I know it’s Roq of the 90′s, but was that song new?””…I’m still in awe that new kids want to hear some real music. I dig that. We should all try less hating on these minors with no hope and educate them with the history of awesome music. I for one applaud KROQ for doing these 90′s weekends. This weekend I’m definitely going to tune in on my car radio whether my battery dies or not, I’m down for this weekends set so lay some choice tracks for us KROQ’rs KROQ! Righteous post Guillermo. Proper. Sluggo would be proud. I always fantasized what a No Doubt/ Save Ferris concert would be like. I would die!…after seeing the show. Even just No Doubt going back to their oldschool roots. I’m still crossing my fingers in hopes that the new album will have some SKA in it. RUDE FOREVER man! Summer of 98′…
