The week continues with more amazing new tracks from the Red Hot Chili Peppers‘ upcoming album I’m With You.

Today, we’ve got an especially poignant song called “Brendan’s Death Song” that the Red Hot Chili Peppers wrote after the passing of longtime friend, supporter, and in progress author of their book, The Oral and Visual History of The Red Hot Chili Peppers–Los Angeles punk icon, Brendan Mullen.

In an exclusive video interview with KROQ’s Stryker, Anthony Kiedis talks about what Mullen meant to both his life and his career.

Anthony and Chad speak with Stryker about “Brendan’s Death Song”

“ Kind of gave space for the early L.A. punk rock scene to exist and kind of kept that ball rolling for years to come.
” Anthony Kiedis on Brendan Mullen Never one to shy away from his emotions, Anthony Kiedis briefly explained the history of Brenda Mullen, a British man who was a very “infamous and important institution” in the Los Angeles music scene and who booked one of the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ first shows in 1983.

“Brendan Mullen. Lovely chap. Absolutely amazing fellow who ventured from the U.K. back in the late ’70s; came to Hollywood. Opened up the first punk rock club in Hollywood called The Mask. Very infamous and important institution in the history of Los Angeles music.”

“ He was pure love at the point when he died. He was not an unresolved cat.
” “Kind of gave space for the early L.A. punk rock scene to exist and kind of kept that ball rolling for years to come. He was a booker for the Club Lingerie. Gave the 1983-version of the Red Hot Chili Peppers one of their first big shows as a booker to play the Lingerie and then gave us many other shows after that.”

“And, was in the middle of writing our book ‘The Oral And Visual History of the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ when he died on his 60th birthday of a massive stroke-like occurrence in his brain.”

“Which is sad, but also, if you knew him, you kind of felt like here’s a person who was fully realized and it’s OK.”

“He was pure love at the point when he died. He was not an unresolved cat.”

“So, he died on the day of his birth and on the day that we built this band. It was the very first day that we played with Josh.”

“ That song came out of the air and was meant to be.
” “No one was bummed out like ‘This is dark.’ It was actually quite beautiful. We talked about it, that we lost a good man.
