Cameron Crowe’s “Pearl Jam Twenty” Documentary, The Band Retraces Footsteps, Good, Bad And Ugly

Director Cameron Crowe recently attended the Television Critics Association press tour where he spoke about his upcoming Rockumentry Pearl Jam Twenty. Given over 1200 hours of never before seen footage along with new material, the dynamic director has captured the formation and career of one of the most successful American rock bands of all time.
“
The whole movie is Cameron's love letter to us - but it's equal parts complimentary and really painful.

“The whole movie is Cameron’s love letter to us – but it’s equal parts complimentary and really painful. It shows our growing pains and some real bad times. It was just really hard to watch.” – Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament in Rolling Stone interview.
Filled with tons of candid interview clips, grainy backstage reels, and live concert footage this film welcomes fans aboard Pearl Jam’s journey to becoming alternative rocks’ grungiest anti-heroes and what its members did to prevent their fall from grace.
“American rock bands… they break up, and Pearl Jam managed to stay together.” – Chris Cornell of Soundgarden

Retracing their footsteps in this retrospective film, the band admits the three-year filmmaking process brought up a lot of emotions and compared the experience to attending group therapy. Of the film Crowe [Almost Famous] has said, “It get’s under their skin a little bit…. If you rip the scab off a little bit and make people a little uncomfortable, you’re going to get something unique. I want to ask the stuff that a fan given a front row seat would ask, but be tough when I need to be tough.”

After last week’s long awaited debut of the trailer for PJ20 fans are beyond ecstatic. With this year marking their 20th anniversary, Pearl Jam remains a giant musical force and 2011 being the year diehard fans really get to know the band they love. 2011 has already started off strong with the release of Live on Ten Legs, and a deluxe reissues of 1993-s Vs. and 1994-s Vitalogy. Pearl Jam will begin their summer tour in September (international in November), and will (hopefully) release their 10th studio album.
