It’s been a tumultuous week and a half for Kings of Leon. In case you haven’t been following the Followills, I’ll bring you up to speed.
“
There are problems in our band bigger than not drinking enough Gatorade.
”
Jared Followill
It all began two Fridays ago, when their Dallas show ended abruptly due to lead singer, Caleb Followill’s need to take care of some business backstage. He told fans he needed to vomit and drink another beer, but promised he’d return for three more songs.
Whether he vomited or grabbed the beer is unknown, as for the three more songs…they didn’t happen. Bassist, Jared Followill apologized to the crowd for his “unfit” brother who wouldn’t be able to “carry on with the gig,” and told fans to “(bleep)ing hate Caleb, not us!”
Cue the now infamous tweet from Jared: “I love our fans so much. I know you guys aren’t stupid. I can’t lie. There are problems in our band bigger than not drinking enough Gatorade.” – Jared Followill via Twitter
The Gatorade reference because dehydration and heat exhaustion (along with vocal cord issues) were the reasons given for the Dallas fiasco. The Kings then canceled their Saturday show in Houston and by Monday a message on the band’s website read:
We are so sorry to say Kings of Leon are canceling their entire US tour due to Caleb Followill suffering from vocal issues and exhaustion. The band is devastated, but in order to give the fans the shows they deserve, they need to take this break…”
Rumors, of course, started circulating about the future of the band and whether they would be breaking up.
“
Bummed about the tour not happening. So Sorry 4 all the fans. We just need some rest.
”

Cue tweet from drummer, Nathan Followill: “Bummed about the tour not happening. So Sorry 4 all the fans. We just need some rest. Thanks 4 understanding. WE ARE NOT BREAKING UP! – Nathan Followill via Twitter
With a canceled US tour, which is reportedly going to cost KoL’s insurance company $15 million, the band are taking a well deserved and hard-earned rest and will resume their tour September 28, in Vancouver.
According to a recent tweet from Nathan, “Caleb’s doc says that he needs vocal rest for at least a month so keep the good vibes coming.”
Why are you still reading this? You should be following the Followills on Twitter. I’m sure there have been more updates as I’ve been writing this!
But first, check out this video from their Dallas show (thanks Trodmac!).

Nah, the month is needed to work through paperwork and officially release a statement the band is breaking up
