It is just over two months until alternative rockers Jane’s Addiction land their fourth album, entitled The Great Escape Artist.
Despite various break-ups and reunions the Californians are keeping it going well into the 21st century. Last.fm Trends looks at a history which dates back to 1985.
The band’s first album, Nothing’s Shocking, came in 1988 amidst a sea of internal problems over royalty issues. Despite this the album has stood the test of time and has currently contributed 1,353,208 scrobbles to the band’s total scrobble count of 7,359,740.
After a breakup in June 2004 that stretched on for four years, they re-united in April of 2008 with their original line-up of Perry Farrell, Dave Navarro, Eric Avery, and Stephen Perkins. Below shows their weekly listener activity from the reunion to the present day (click through for larger image):
The reunion was met with a gradual increase in listeners, whilst a summer tour in 2009 with Nine Inch Nails sent the listener counts rocketing to over 20,000 a week.
A single preceding the release of The Great Escape Artist, “End To The Lies” was released in April as a free download and has so far been scrobbled 7,207 times, something the band will hope to improve upon with the release of the new album in September.
