Limp Bizkit

Just when you thought 2011 was starting to get dull. BAM! Here’s a blast from the recent past to shake you out of your slumber. Limp Bizkit are back with a vengeance, dropping their first new album since 2005. Gold Cobra is the title of the new record, which includes guest spots by none other than Gene Simmons of KISS, and rappers Paul Wall and Lil Wayne. Click through now to listen to the entire Gold Cobra album, and leave us a comment to let us know what you think.

Original Limp Bizkit guitar player Wes Borland is back with the band, which now takes the stage with the original 1990′s lineup. Borland joins controversial frontman Fred Durst, the face of the band, and the man largely responsible for their worldwide career haul of over 60 million albums sold. From their breakthrough 2000 album Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water (which spawned the hits “” and “”) to their questionable 2005 effort The Unquestionable Truth (Part 1), Limp Bizkit have always stayed true to themselves, even when the world was left to wonder “why?”

No one is questioning why their returning now, at this crucial period in rock history. Limp Bizkit represent a radical time in the evolution of rock ‘n roll (please don’t call them “nu metal” anymore), a time when non-rock sounds such as DJ scratches and rapping were making their way onto mainstream rock radio. Bands like Linkin Park and Incubus, though different in sound, would face similar resistance from rock purists as they pursued similar non-rock elements in their music. Critical success has always lagged behind commercial success for these bands, but our bet is that commercial success means a lot more to Limp Bizkit these days then a 9.5 rating on Pitchfork.

Right on Matt for kickin’ this post to shine some light on LB’s new album but I have a few arguable points. “From their breakthrough 2000 album…” Dude, “Significant Other” is their breakthrough album. Back in the day nobody thought that this band would have anything other then “Faith” as a hit then they rock the scene with “Nookie”, “Break Stuff”, and “Re-Arranged” not to mention their sickass Method Man track “N 2 Gether Now” which was basically an anthem for all the teenage partiers of ’99. Chocolate Starfish was their more mainstream album though it wasn’t their most popular amongst non fans it still had alot of great singles. Sadly, non fan masses create the pulse of mainstream media so if not everybody digs it it ain’t much, which I personally think is bullshit! All of Limp Bizkits albums are great. Each one has a little more progress and experiment with newer tech. I loved Fred’s more mellow side with “Results May Vary” like tracks, “Underneath the Gun”, “Down Another Day”, and “Build a Bridge”. I’ll give you cred Matt for the staying true to themselves comment cause that is for sures. Fred is all about that right there! That’s what I love about LB is after all these years they still have their same style even if the albums are some what different…they’re still all in the same way. My second point is your comment about this being a “Crucial Period”…huh? There is nothing going on in this time right now. The new generation of teens are all about synth induced pop/ alternative. Light hearted, friendly, free peace faring love and exception when all these kids are anything but! All these teens now are judgemental and even more isolated with their cliques. I think that’s why Limp Bizkit is back, cause they need a revival of a time where teenagers were free to act wild and reckless without the idea of it being “Cool”. This genre of music was a big middle finger to anyone and everyone who thought they they were special. It was an modivational tool to express how you felt, a depiction of one’s emotion’s or how someone was living. Kids don’t look like they have those types of feelings anymore but who am I to say let alone any media mogul company. Fred might have a new generation of fans to tap into to but only mass reception can say so. Lastly I didn’t like that your comment about Linkin Park and Incubus having a a difference in sound. Listen to “Hybrid Theory” and “S.C.I.E.N.C.E.” and tell me that these albums don’t have a similar progressive rock/hip hop style. Besides all of that I’m glad you posted this cause its great that you’re helpin’ spread the word of LB. I dig this new album! “Shotgun” is a sick track! I hope it becomes a cult classic. “Why Try” and “Gold Cobra” are LB standards which I knew they would have the disc, but I am really loving “Walking Away”. I remember on somebody’s past post they had this track for previewing and someone commented that it sounded like Tool but I think they might have just listened to Tool alittle too much cause guitar melodies aren’t just claimed by one band otherwise every band has bitin’ off every other band which is a lame assumption. I like when rock can be mellow and then flow into a heavier sound which this song does. So much emotion and power. It’s one of my favorites as of now. “Douche Bag” is cool too! Overall I hope kids these days buy up this album and spread the word that Limp Bizkit is back and ready to attack. Keep It Real Matt! Can’t wait for Epicenter!!! LB is gonna rip it up!!!! LBF for reals…
