It's weird playing while actually driving on the streets.
As a resident of Los Feliz, I’ve taken the Metro Rapid 780 bus down Los Feliz Boulevard and through “Downtown” Los Feliz many times. Usually a bus trip consists of 20-somethings with iPhone earbuds, commuters, a couple of screaming kids, and the quintessential crazy person–never a famous band like The Airborne Toxic Event playing a “mobile” secret show.

Take a ride with The Airborne Toxic Event while they perform an extremely acoustic version of their hit song  “Changing” on a Los Angeles bus and see if you recognize any of the places that they drive past.

Some extremely lucky fans and friends were invited via e-mail blast to be a part of The Airborne Toxic Event’s home turf tour/secret show one sunny Los Angeles afternoon.

From what I can see through the windows, they drive past Lucifer’s Pizza on Hillhurst Avenue (they have great vegan and gluten-free pizza), past what looks like some Spanish-style apartment homes in the Franklin Hills, past the Satellite (R.I.P Spaceland) on Silverlake Boulevard, down Sunset through the Sunset Junction in Silverlake, past Tang’s Donuts (best late night place to get donuts/see homeless people fight), back to Hillhurst (near the infamous Alcove perfect for celeb spotting), around the Silverlake Reservoir and back to central Los Feliz. It's really personal bringing a bunch of fans into your neighborhood and drive around on streets literally adjacent to streets that we live on.

Lead singer Mikel Jolett talked about his VEVO Go Show experience and what it meant to be playing on his home turf:

That was fun. It’s strange to be home because I’ve lived here for five years and we used to all hang out around here…These are actually the streets all the songs happened on. So it’s weird playing while actually driving on the streets where the songs occurred and everything.

Backing vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, Anna Bulbrook, agreed:

It’s really personal bringing a bunch of fans into your neighborhood and drive around on streets literally adjacent to streets that we live on.

As a longtime resident of the Los Feliz/Silverlake area, I thought it was pretty poignant to see my neighborhood from the eyes of a band I once unknowingly drank side-by-side with. It gives a strong perspective on all the magical things that could be happening in any given neighborhood.

Maybe someone grabbing a latte next to you at your local Coffee Bean is writing the next great American indie rock album. Or maybe, that person is you.

I am so jealous! That was great, I love how Airborne constantly does this like this for their local fans.
