Mike D & Ad Rock Of The Beastie Boys Stopped By The Kevin & Bean Show To Talk About The New Album

Mike D and Ad Rock from the Beastie Boys stopped by the Kevin & Bean show this morning on the release date of their album, Hot Sauce Committee Part 2.
We’ve had a lot of Beasties over a lot of years, and they summed it up this morning with a simple “you’re welcome.” They’re a group that’s in it for the long haul – partly because they love what they do and are good at it, and partly because they “really don’t have anything else [they] know how to do. [Their] skill sets are lacking in other areas.”

Their long-form music video, Fight For Your Right Revisited has the greatest list of stars in any film I’ve ever seen. It’s incredible the caliber of talent that the Boys were able to pull together for this project. The were originally working with Swiss director, Nathanial Hörnblowér, but that things didn’t go so well this time around, so the task fell onto the shoulders of Adam Yauch and the rest of the Beastie Boys.
[In doing some digging (Wikipedia search), Nathanial Hörnblowér is just another pseudonym for Adam Yauch (AKA MCA)]

The Beastie Boys as cops in Fight For Your Right Revisited
The video project got off the ground when the Boys were on a flight with Danny McBride. They pitched him the idea, hijinks ensued, and the ball got rolling.
Sitting in the KROQ studios this morning was the first time that Mike D and Ad Rock had seen a physical copy of their new CD. Everything nowadays is done digitally, but “it’s not really real until you’re holding it in your hand, physically,” to which Bean pulled out one of two “that’s what she said”s and the reaction was priceless!

Before they left the studio, Bean asked the Beastie Boys about some of their collaborations on the album, including a track with Nas, and why they don’t do more collaborations. The simple answer came down to who would and wouldn’t call them back. Among the first to respond was Santigold, who is a fantastic musician in her own right. Getting people to respond seems to be tougher than we might think. Fat Joe, they’re still waiting on you!

Over the hill? Go back to listening to the White Album, or just wait for Paul mcCartneys new album to come out. Talk about over the hill…

“Dad” – thanks for your thrilling and important contribution in the comments. Clearly, you’re spouting opinion without having heard the album, which is a dead ringer for the sound and style they released nearly 30 years ago. Don’t project your own age loathing onto these vibrant and talented musicians.

They may be nutty and a little wacky, but they’re geniuses! LOVE the beasties- it’s great to have them back with a new album. I’m hoping they’ll make an album stop or two in the Bay Area…

Mike D. looks like he could be Leonard Nimoy’s older brother. Still, the new album sounds better than I thought and they have never disappointed live so if this album is an excuse to do one last tour, I think that’s cool.

Everyone ages, respect to the Beasties for trying to break out of the shallow mindset of the majority of people in this world who think that things have to be a certain way and go around judging others when they stand on pretty rocky ground themselves. They have put out a lot of positivity out there.
Be true to yourself, and don’t listen to the limits that the sheep who follow the crowd would have you live and die by.
