[Coachella 2011 Review] Wiz Khalifa, Nas & Damian Marley, DFA 1979

Yesterday I chose to stake claim at a nice spot by the main stage at Coachella to catch a few of the great acts who would be performing there in the next few hours, including Wiz Khalifa, Nas & Damian Marley and Death From Above 1979.
I also happened to catch a bit of Duck Sauce, Ratatat and Kanye West as the third and final day of Coachella came to an end.

Pot smoke filled the air as rapper Wiz Khalifa hit the stage on Sunday afternoon at Coachella, as tons of people kept pouring in and gathering around the main stage. Khalifa’s style and party lyrics really have connected with a younger crowd, but that’s not to say that there weren’t a number of older folks out there enjoying themselves some Wiz.
The crowd erupted as the intro to his hit song “Black and Yellow” came on, and it was surprising to see how many people knew the lyrics to the song. The second-hand weed smoke during his set, especially around 4:20, was enough to get everyone near the main stage at least a little bit stoned.

Nas & Damian Marley came out after Wiz and opened with their song “As We Enter,” followed up by “Nah Mean,” both tracks off their album Distant Relatives. Nas broke off into a few songs of his own like “Nasty Nas,” “If I Ruled The World” and “Made You Look.” Damian Marley paid respect to his father Bob Marley with a cover of “Could You Be Loved.”

Death From Above 1979 put on a great, high-energy show. Their two-man setup works great and between the two of them they make a TON of noise. It’ll be interesting to see what happens after a great reception from fans at Coachella.
Duck Sauce went off at the Sahara tent and had tons of kids wearing yellow duck masks in the crowd. Ratatat immediately followed over at the Mojave tent, which was jammed pack as well. As much as I wanted to head to see Bloody Beetroots at the Sahara tent, getting a decent spot to see Kanye seemed more critical, so off to the main stage I went.

I was a little drunk and exhausted by this point in the night, so a good review is pretty much out the window for me. Check out our review of Kanye’s set as written by Nadia, who is a much, much better writer than me.

IT’s nice to see Wiz Kalifah and Nas on the same stage for a predominately rock and roll audience, it’s amazing to see how eclectic people have become. Smoking weed seems so strange now adays, it’s like looking into the past…I’d rather be with God and his son 7 day’s a week. The world is changing and evolving towards a better future, and I really can’t wait for people to start enjoying life without needing to distress or find relief in medication or drugs. My non profits main research is that all depression and mental illness can be cured through religion, either Christianity or Judaism, the core problems are always within the lack of knowledge or within the ability to trust who your speaking too.
I don’t have any fear for the future, I only worry about what part of the past may decide to include itself into my present life. I don’t like others heading towards an inferior life if they can have a good time without any marijuana or alcohol.
