Stryker had a chance to sit down and talk with one half of The Sleigh Bells, Alexis Krauss, and talk about how she met bandmate, Derek E. Miller, touring and the Jersey girl’s perception of Los Angeles.

Last year we'd really just started touring, we didn't travel with a crew. We didn't travel with production.

In some way, Sleigh Bells formed because fate intended it to. Derek E. Miller’s band, Poison The Well had disbanded and he was waiting tables and trying to figure out his next move when he met Alexis and her mother while working.

Derek happened to chat up Alexis’ mother and the two discovered a compatible passion for music, so much so that Alexis decided not to write off Derek as a creep and give him a chance as a musician.

The duo has been touring on their album, Treats since last Coachella, when they really made their mark on the music world.  However, things weren’t so big back then.  Alexis explains:

Last year we’d really just started touring, we didn’t travel with a crew.  We didn’t travel with production.  And the fact that we got to do it again this year with a crew and a light show really made a difference.

We haven't yet settled on a sussinct genre title, a lot of people call it synth pop.
Their sound, which is pretty much impossible to explain is a mesh of lots of genres and sounds.  Alexis says they typically are better off just playing for people rather than discussing their sound, but that they accept the fact that people have labeled their sound already:

If you haven’t caught Sleigh Bells you might want to get on it if you want to hear them perform Treats, cause this is the tail end of their U.S. tour and once it’s over they’ll return to the recording studio.

Still, it’s pretty interesting to see an edgy, talented Jersey girl play with Los Angeles’ finest.  Alexis even commented to Stryker the best parts of L.A. in her opinion:

It’s just so different than New York.  It’s kind of like going on a mini-vacation.

Well Alexis, please come visit us at The World Famous KROQ anytime, we’d love to give you as many mini-vacations as possible.
