Congresswoman Donna Edwards took Jack & Meg up on their breakup offer: “Do with [The White Stripes] whatever you want.”

On Friday, to help make her point to Republicans on the topic of how all the seniors, service personnel, and children would be affected by a government shutdown, Edwards (D-MD) quoted the White Stripes‘ “Effect and Cause.”

“ The White Stripes no longer belong to Jack and Meg anymore. The White Stripes belong to you and you can do with it whatever you want.
” Meg & Jack White Well, first came an action/ And then a reaction/ But you can’t switch around/ For your own satisfaction/ Well, you put my house down, then got mad/ At my reaction

The very same day, Congressman Eric Dondero (R-MI) gave a Led Zeppelin tribute about how the Democrats made him want to listen to “the melodious strains of Page, Plant, Jones and Jon Bonham.”

The White Stripes may be gone, but thanks to White’s Third Man Records, we can soon buy plenty of White Stripes music that we haven’t heard before. As the Third Man website points out, the latest package available to subscribers to Third Man’s Vault subscription series consists of a double-vinyl recording of the White Stripes’ last-ever live show in 2007, a DVD of a live show from 2000, and a 7″ single of some of their earliest recordings.
