30 Seconds To Mars’ Jared Leto As Kurt Cobain – A Very Moving Tribute
To mark the 17th anniversary of Kurt Cobain’s death, Jared Leto of 30 Seconds to Mars decided to dress like the late Nirvana frontman and post a tribute video.
The bizarre video pictures Leto complete with a blonde wig while he performs some of Nirvana’s 1994 tracks “Pennyroyal Tea and Rape Me.”
Along with the tribute video, Leto also posted a lengthy tribute on his blog, which he explained why he filmed the video.

So grateful for his contribution and inspiration. Not sure I'd be doing this if it weren't for him.
”

“I heard today was the day Kurt passed away 17 years ago,” he wrote. “Can’t believe it’s been that long. So grateful for his contribution and inspiration. Not sure I’d be doing this if it weren’t for him.”
He added, “I shot a short piece of film when I heard they were making a film celebrating his life. I made it to explore the character and explore creative possibilities. I never sent it to the studio or to anyone but thought I’d share it now.”

He’s exploiting Cobain’s image so he can get himself more attention because he’s an attention whore. Singing is fine, but dressing up like him is just Leto wanting people to pay attention to him. And I have a hard time believing Cobain would like 30 Seconds To Mars. I wonder what Grohl and Novoselic would say about this.

I think that Jared did this as his own outlet to honor an amazing artist and I think he did well. However, I don’t think that Kurt would not have liked it because he didn’t “get” the whole stardom/fame thing. I don’t know if Kurt Cobain, were he able to communicate now, would understand the whole tribute thing. Did he even realize what a tremendous talent he was? Regardless, I think that this was a very nice way for Jared Leto to show his appreciation for Kurt Cobain and I think those who are bashing it should look at it as an act of appreciation instead of harshly judging J.L. for it.

Yea, Kurt really would have loved this. Jared needs to concentrate on his own music since its basically offensive. Nice cover art to. But if you were born in the 80′s or 90′s you wouldn’t understand.

This made me puke in my mouth a lil’ bit. I hate it when people try to pay tribute to someone and then over exagerate the original’s trademarks, idiosyncrasies and passion. This seems like a desperate plea to play Kurt in a horrible Hollywood bio-pic. I don’t doubt that Jared is a true fan but we all know Kurt would HATE this and Jared know’s that.
