The Axis of Awesome Stop By The Kevin & Bean Show To Talk Foolishness

Jordan Raskopoulos, Lee Naimo and Benny Davis
This morning, Kevin & Bean had musical comedy trio Axis of Awesome in the studio to chat, and give us a preview if what to expect this weekend at the Gibson Amphitheater.
For those of you who are new to the Axis of Awesome’s brand of comedy, they’re three Aussies (Jordan, Lee, and Benny) who bring the funny in the form of musical comedy. Think along the lines of Flight of the Conchords or The Lonely Island. They also won the Melbourne International Comedy Festival’s Moosehead Award in 2008 for their show, The Axis of Awesome Comeback Spectacular.

All three guys started off doing improv comedy together, with Benny being a musician as well, but got bored with it after a while. Axis of Awesome was sort of a side project that just ended up taking off. They have the benefit of appealing to both a comedy loving and music loving crowd.
We can all look forward to seeing the Axis [I shorten their name cause we're tight like that now] perform alongside fellow Aussie, Jim Jeffries, who we found out is good buddies with the Axis because all Aussies know each other and have brunches together on Sundays. They also have his phone number memorized. It’s 8. That’s it. Just one number. Small country.

When asked if there’s competition between them and Flight of the Conchords (who are not Australian, but are Kiwis, from New Zealand) the response was, “we already beat them in a cage fight. They used to have three members. Benny ate Gerald.” The Axis caused Flight of the Conchords to quit… or something like that.
Before they left the studio, they closed out by demonstrating how almost all pop song use only four chords. Who knew, right? Maybe songwriting is in my future after all! I know four chords! Let’s do this!

Next Wednesday, following their appearance at Kevin & Bean’s April Foolishness this weekend, the Axis of Awesome will be playing the Largo at the Coronet on La Cienega to kick of their US Tour. Get your tickets for the Largo show here before they sell out!
