Hiccups Suck… Especially During A Newscast!

One of the most irritating things ever is getting the hiccups! Recently, Kate Wilson, an Australian news reporter, got a case of the hiccups during a newscast. When that happens, what do you do?
We discussed hiccups on the air and everyone had their own remedies – drinking water with a pencil between your teeth, drinking water upside down, holding your breath, etc.

In the case of Wilson, being on an early morning newscast, she just had to push through and complete her five-minute newscast. (Newscast with hiccups starts at 3:17 into video.)

Also in the news today, a British musician by the name of Christopher Sands has had hiccups for the last 22 months! This is nowhere near the record for the longest lasting hiccups ever, which lasted for 68 years, but I couldn’t imagine having hiccups for more than a few minutes!
At 7 years of hiccups, I’m sure Bob Kipp from Palm Springs has tried everything to ditch the hiccups too! For me, a surefire way to ditch these things is to “drink water upside-down,” meaning put your mouth on the far edge of the cup as opposed to the close edge, and tip the glass forward rather than back.**
What works for your hiccups?

A fireman taught me this over 20 years ago…. Have someone plug your ears with their fingers.. pushing down on that little flap on your ears closest to the cheek. While they are holding your ears, drink a 1/2 to 3/4 glass of water. This has NEVER failed me nor anyone I told to do it while they were having hiccups.
