Angelenos, we should consider ourselves massively lucky when it comes to music. There are so many amazing Southern Californian bands that play our area all the time and those some of those same bands are playing Coachella 2011.

We’ve spotlighted some of our favorite local bands–or as we deem them–our “Hometown Heroes.”

Los Angeles foursome, Warpaint, were originally a collaborative effort between gorgeous, albeit eccentric indie actress, Shannyn Sossamon, and her sister Jenny Lee Lindberg(bass/vocals) . Eventually, Sossamon left due to scheduling conflicts with the band being rounded out with Stella Mogwaza (drums/keyboard), Emily Kokal (vocals/guitar), and Theresa Wayman (guitar, vocals).

Although Warpaint started officially in 2004, they didn’t actually put out their first EP until 2008. Recorded with John Frusciante (formerly of Red Hot Chili Peppers), Exquisite Corpse hit #1 on the Los Angeles Amoeba Records local artist chart and then re-released a year later with critical acclaim.

Eventually, Warpaint signed to Rough Trade Records, toured throughout the world touring for The XX. In 2010, Warpaint put out their album The Fool, garnering accolades for songs like “Undertow”with a video directed by original Warpainter–celeb sis, Shannyn Sossamon.
