[List] Does Winning "Best Picture" Equal Best Soundtrack? Not Necessarily.

The Oscars are coming this weekend...

Over the years, there have been several movies that have had amazing KROQ-esque soundtracks, but the films themselves may have been somewhat forgettable.

With the Oscars upon us this Sunday at 8pm, I went on a mission to find the top 10 songs featured in soundtracks from movies that have won Best Picture to see if the opposite was true. Do the best movies always have cool soundtracks to match?

There were some obvious standouts like The Departed (who doesn’t remember the [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Dropkick Murphy’s[/lastfm] intro?) and Forrest Gump, but the rest of the winners really didn’t give me much to work with.

10. [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Willie Nelson[/lastfm] – On The Road Again (Forrest Gump)

9. [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Rolling Stones[/lastfm] – Let It Loose (The Departed)

8. [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers[/lastfm] – American Girl (The Silence Of The Lambs)

7. [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Elvis Presley[/lastfm] – Hound Dog (Forrest Gump)

6. [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]The Doors[/lastfm] – Break On Through To The Other Side (Forrest Gump)

5. [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Simon & Garfunkel[/lastfm] – Mrs. Robinson (Forrest Gump)

4. [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]M.I.A.[/lastfm] – Paper Planes (Slumdog Millionaire)

3. [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Pink Floyd[/lastfm] – Comfortably Numb (The Departed)

2. [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Lynyrd Skynyrd[/lastfm] – Sweet Home Alabama (Forrest Gump)

1. [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Dropkick Murphy’s[/lastfm] – I’m Shipping Off To Boston (The Departed)

I get it, not every movie can feature KROQ music but we can hope for the future right?
