The Oscars are coming this weekend...
Over the years, there have been several movies that have had amazing KROQ-esque soundtracks, but the films themselves may have been somewhat forgettable.
With the Oscars upon us this Sunday at 8pm, I went on a mission to find the top 10 songs featured in soundtracks from movies that have won Best Picture to see if the opposite was true. Do the best movies always have cool soundtracks to match?
There were some obvious standouts like The Departed (who doesn’t remember the Dropkick Murphy’s intro?) and Forrest Gump, but the rest of the winners really didn’t give me much to work with.
10. Willie Nelson – On The Road Again (Forrest Gump)
9. The Rolling Stones – Let It Loose (The Departed)
8. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers – American Girl (The Silence Of The Lambs)
7. Elvis Presley – Hound Dog (Forrest Gump)
6. The Doors – Break On Through To The Other Side (Forrest Gump)
5. Simon & Garfunkel – Mrs. Robinson (Forrest Gump)
4. M.I.A. – Paper Planes (Slumdog Millionaire)
3. Pink Floyd – Comfortably Numb (The Departed)
2. Lynyrd Skynyrd – Sweet Home Alabama (Forrest Gump)
1. Dropkick Murphy’s – I’m Shipping Off To Boston (The Departed)
I get it, not every movie can feature KROQ music but we can hope for the future right?
