The internet is abuzz with news of Radiohead‘s latest album The King of Limbs and its forthcoming digital release date this Saturday. As NME reports, it’s another coup for the band who’ve left tradition behind.
But what about those Last.fm scrobbles? Radiohead is consistently in the top three of the global charts on Last.fm, so just how popular could their new release be? Last.fm Trends investigates.
Back on October 10, 2007, the band formed a blueprint for digital success: the download of In Rainbows was sold on a pay-what-you-want basis, resulting in a complete blanketing of Last.fm’s top track charts for 18 weeks. Their charts from the week of its release show the beginnings of that dominance.

This past week, the band’s top track was once again “Karma Police,” gaining 19,110 listeners. So then question is: Could tracks from the new album make a four-fold listener increase on that number? Of course, fans will have to pay a flat fee this time for King of Limbs – but 67,210 listeners was the golden number in October 2007, and with nothing in last week’s charts topping 29,356 listeners, it seems like the band could just pull it off again.
Keep an eye on Radiohead’s Last.fm page to see how far the new tracks rocket, and if the band can again rule Last.fm’s global top tracks.
Last.fm Trends brings you news in scrobbles for upcoming artists and old favorites, every weekday.
