What Has Patrick Stump Been Up To?

Photo by Kevin Winter/ Getty Images
It’s been a very long time since KROQ has played Fall Out Boy. I honestly can’t even remember what their last single was, can you? Sergio (my PIC for the night) and I even started to argue about what song we actually played here at the station. The conclusion we came to was “Thanks for the Memories,” but we could be wrong.
Getting to the point… besides Pete Wentz being married to and knocking up Ashley Simpson, the rest of the Fall Out Boy members have seemed to disappear.
However, lead singer Patrick Stump is trying his damnedest to stay afloat.
At first glance I thought it was some random Joe on YouTube trying to make a break in Hollywood, but sadly I was mistaken.
This video actually frightens me. Stump is a little bit too animated for my taster. Try turning off the volume on your computer and watch it again. He looks ridiculous!
Am I the only person who feels this way? Let me know what you guys think.

Actually, the other members haven’t disappeared. Andy and Joe (drummer and guitarist) from FOB are in a new band called “The Damned Things”. The rest of the band is two members from Every Time I Die and two members from Anthrax. They released an album in late 2010. Im not a big FOB fan, but The Damned Things are pretty damn good. Maybe….you should do some research before you jump to such a bold conclusion…

I think Patrick Stump is one of the most talented people you could ever look into. Who the fuck cares what singing voices he makes? The voice and understanding for music is what matters.
Also, @Nick – Patrick has a solo album coming out this month.

Mmmm, Patrick. He could make awkward singing faces for me anyday.

I think the important part of this video is how incredible his voice sounds, not how he looks.

Also he isn’t “trying to stay afloat” – he has an album coming out in the next month. You’d know that if you bothered to do some research.

Actually this is just promo for Patrick’s new solo album which he writes, plays, and records every instrument played on the album, so I guess you could say he’s been up to a lot. He’s done a few Youtube videos like this so that fan’s can see what he’s been up to.
Also (as previous commenters mentioned) Andy and Joe are in a band called The Damned Thing, and Pete just created a new band called Black Cards.

I loved FOB but even this is so diferent I don´t think you have to f*ck them… you don´t know anything about this.. did you do this only to annoy them??

I agree with Jon. Before you go saying that “the rest of the band members” (who have names by the way.. Patrick, Andy & Joe) have disappeared, please do some research. With access to Twitter and the internet in general, it isn’t difficult to find that all four of them are working on new music.
As far as thinking Patrick looks ridiculous.. you ARE in fact the only person who feels that way. Are musicians not supposed to be animated when they sing? Wouldn’t it be kind of creepy if he wasn’t?
I support all four members, but it’s clear that he was the most talented of the group, and this talent will take him far. I think all Fall Out Boy fans would agree that we’d rather they all get back together and produce more FOB-esque albums, but I’m excited to see each of them get to dabble in different genres and styles that wouldn’t get much support if they were still together as a band.

the thing is, however ridiculous he looks (i tried turning of the sound–he does, haha) he has an amazing voice
i just don’t see why he should have to do this youtube thing. he has history!

Whoever wrote this article is beyond stupid, First of all trashing Patrick Stump who has more talent in his finger than most have in their entire body is dumb. Second Pete Wentz is doing more than knocking up his wife….He is in this little band called “The Black Cards”. Lastly the other two former members (Joe/Andy) are in the super group “The Damned Things” and are far from disappearing..and yes you are the only person who feels that way.

He’s always made these faces. Anyone who’s ever paid attention would know this. (I actually kind of find his faces amusing.) I could care less what faces he makes when he sings. He CAN sing, and that’s the point. He has an amazing voice, is super sweet, and really freaking adorable.
Oh, and FOB’s last single was What a Catch, Donnie. (But Believers never die!)

uhm, i do disagree. Patrick has always had awkward “moves’, he’s a great singer, and i’m sure your voice couldn’t even measure up. This guy is a great artist- bias hate articles=lame/low.

Yes, he’s a bit animated. My main concern was the puffiness. I miss my fluffy Patrick. He looked better puffy. As far as the video even if he looks odd I’ll still love him.

February 3, 2011 11:49 pm
not toally true the other members of FOB have disappeared:
Pete is on a new project “The Blackcards”
Joe and Andy have gone back to roots with their new band the “damnthings” and have been touring US and Europe last year.
Said that…among all these new musical experiments, i’d say Patrick Stump’s “Sould Punk” is the only album I might end uo to buy….liking what I have heard so far…Rock On Patrick!

First off, who ever wrote this is a prick who is obviously unaware of talent. Just saying.
Secondly, Patrick moves and faces when he sings are adorable! I’ve seen all his Cappellas on You-Tube and not one has secede to put a smile on my face or make me scream AWWWW!!!! THATS TOO CUTE!!!!
Thirdly, KERPOW! his voice hits you like a bulldozer. It’s so georgeous, and now that it’s matured a bit he sound awesome than ever. Sure we all miss Fall out Boy (GET BACK TOGETHER) but he’s doing awesomely, considering that he produced, played and wrote everything he’s been pretty buisy the past ear and whatever.
Fourthly, atleast reasrrch before you jump to the conclusion that not one of the other FOB members (they have names btw) have compleatly disappeared off the face of the earth. If you had actually used the Internet and found out that Joe and Andy are

Patrick has been incredibly active since the split of FOB. He works with numerous other artists, writes, and performs on his own, and has been on “most anticipated” lists for albums of 2011. The videos he posts on YouTube isn’t to try to stay afloat. He certainly isn’t struggling. His facial expressions aren’t strange. If anything, I admire how “into” the music he gets. I think his talent is incredible.

Patrick Stump is an extremely talented artist! Who cares about his appearance? Just don’t look at him if you don’t like his face. Music is the only thing that matters

You love
artists made with plastic

stupid things. Patrick Stump (Soul Punk album)
Andrew and Joseph (the Damned Things)
Peter Wentz (Black Cards)
y seguramente no van a entender español
las caras que hace patrick no deberian ser importantes si ustedes hacen criticas buenas, la importancia seria la musica

These comments are why you don’t screw with our boys. We just might fuck you up. I love this band, and I love Patrick the most. They are relevant to me, and the rest of the THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE who follow him. He can make faces all he wants, he still sings better than you. Hell. If I had his voice I’d probably make the same faces.

WoW…. You must be trying to keep your career afloat to ..ts not his facial expressions I care about… Everyone knows that REAL singers make facial expressions because it helps to hit certain notes the way you want them…… Further more every member of FOB is currently working on other projects… Ps. Find better material

I certainly don’t think he’s “trying to stay afloat.” You make it sound as if he’s scrounging for his fame back and that is definitely not what this is. Every member of Fall Out Boy is working on new music, Joe and Andy in The Damned Things, Pete with Black Cards, and Patrick has an album out this month.
Evidently, not much research was put into this. If there had been any, you would’ve known all of that. And more than one person has commented on the lack of research.
And his singing face, to me, just shows the passion he puts into his music, and I find that admirable. It’s also ridiculous to me that you avoided saying anything about his voice. He has an amazing voice, and isn’t that what matters?

this isn’t sad at all, he sounds wonderful, his voice is pretty damn good. so what, he’s trying new things, changing his style, let him do what he wants, obviously its not so sad now, seeing as how he just put out an album, which is amazing.
