Glee Creator To Kings Of Leon: F*** You!

Glee creator Ryan Murphy has a few choice words about Kings of Leon: “F*** you, Kings of Leon. They’re self-centered a**holes, and they missed the big picture.”
What’s all the fuss about? According to the Hollywood Reporter, who got the juicy quotes, Murphy is angry that Kings of Leon denied Glee the rights to use their hit song “Use Somebody.” Sure, that was nearly six months ago, but an angry Murphy is still plenty bitter.
“They missed that a 7-year-old kid can see someone close to their age singing a Kings of Leon song, which will maybe make them want to join a glee club or pick up a musical instrument,” Murphy rants to the THR. “It’s like, OK, hate on arts education. You can make fun of Glee all you want, but at its heart, what we really do is turn kids on to music.”
Lead singer Caleb Followill has told THR that the whole thing has “gotten out of hand” and that it was “never meant as a slap in the face to Glee or to music education or to fans of the show.”
Followill also mentions to THR that “Use Somebody” was being over-promoted at the time. The song did get plenty of airplay, winning several Grammys including Best Rock Song and being nominated for Song of the Year.
So why didn’t you like it, KROQ listeners? Test groups responded to “Use Somebody” with half-hearted shrugs.
What gives? Let us know what you think of the Glee/KOL feud and whether KROQ was off base.

It’s already been said.
“They’re self-centered a**holes, and they missed the big picture.”

I can see why KOL didn’t want their song to be “Gleeified” as this would have labled them as too commercial or worse, sell-outs…but then again any song that gets played 20 times a day on pop stations (coughs..KIIS..cough) has already met its fate. Maybe if Murphy simply communicated the big picture to KOL, this wouldn’t be such a big deal.

I could see why they skipped out on it. They need to keep the whole garage rock image up. I love their music but I don’t see them being the most humanitarian and/or philanthropic rock group.

Maybe they didn’t want their song associated with a really bad re-hashed version on a really awful show. Maybe there’s that…

F*** Glee! Why should they let Glee use their song?… KOL has every right to keep their song off that crappy show!! The Glee creator comes off sounding like some spoiled little bitch by attacking them and calling them self centered A**holes.

Theyre already about as mainstream as it gets. They’re not garage at all. They sound like a digested version of coldplay. If you think this is garage please go purchase a Nirvana cd like In Utero or something.

It’s completely amazing to me that the creator of Glee misses the irony of calling KoL self-centered. Seriously dude, get over yourself. Even if you were turning kids on to choir (you aren’t) you’d be turning them onto lame, mainstream, unthinking, stupid, music. I’m no KoL fan, but they are above you. In fact, Glee, you are doing the opposite of what you think you’re doing. You are making kids dumber. You are making them think Katy Perry is intelligent, artistic, worthwhile music. If you want to make a show about a suicidal, in-the-closet, gay, angst-ridden kid, then use Nirvana and the Doors to get your points out. I still wouldn’t watch, but I’d respect you more.

glee is everything that is wrong with music today. profiting off of bastardizing other artist’s songs and music, just as bad as american idol. you want an artist that sells out, well ozzy is always available. christ, he’s doing a best buy superbowl commercial with justin bieber for f*** sakes, maybe they could do ‘war pigs’ on glee?
i don’t really care for KOL but kudos for standing up to this loser, and his shyte show. f*** you ryan murphy, and anyone who looks like you!
