Who the hell would have ever thought that they would one day watch Trent Reznor very elegantly accept a Golden Globe as a married father of one dressed in a suit? Not a lot of people, that’s who!

Me, I am not surprised at all. To me, Trent Reznor has always been “the man who would be king.” Granted, back in the heyday of Pretty Hate Machine and The Downward Spiral, it was not exactly evident that one day, Trent Reznor would be a well-adjusted, succesful, dignified, sober, family man who is never ever too far removed from his genius, no matter what the approach.

Trent Reznor is and has always been an architect, a composer, a sound virtuoso, a noise whisperer if you will, and now, once outside of the spiral, he is also winner of a Golden Globe for Best Original Score.

That’s my boy!

When I first read that David Fincher was directing The Social Network, I knew that what could have been another cheesy teen flick about an on-line pop culture phenomenon, in the hands of David Fincher would be genius. Then, when I heard that Trent Reznor would do the score, well then that’s when I started counting down the days until I could see this movie. It did not disappoint.

Trent Reznor and his creative partner Atticus Ross created a score that essentially became another important character in the movie. The tone it sets is irresistible. It grabs you,(gently), by the neck and plants you firmly and then cements you in the psyche of this movie.

The best part is that I have adored and respected Trent Reznor as an artist since day one, and to watch him overcome so many personal demons and evolve into one of the most talented, innovated, forward thinkers in his field, is super rewarding to me as a life-long fan.

I knew the man was a bad ass the first time I pressed play on Pretty Hate Machine. There’s a reason I tattooed a NIN logo on my spine.

Trent and Atticus even beat-out Hans Zimmer! Hans effing Zimmer!

So, congratulations to Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross on winning the Golden Globe for Best Original score.

FYI, Trent Reznor will be scoring director David Fincher’s remake of “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” next, alongside long-time friend and collaborator Atticus Ross.

Personally, I was rooting for Danny Elfman (the man is like the Susan Lucci of of film scores) to perhaps win for once. But if he had to lose (again) I was glad it was to Trent Reznor. (And I immediately thought of you, Nicole) Haven’t seen the film yet, but after all the awards it’s won, I’m convinced I need to now.
