Middle Class Rut: From New Low To New High

Rubin, our newest KROQ Joq turned us onto Middle Class Rut back in September. It’s his favorite band in the world.

I was hanging out with him one night as he described the band’s history. You see, Rubin share’s the band’s home town of Sacramento.

Rubin: “I love grass roots stories and Middle Class Rut are exactly that. A two-man band out of Sacramento submitted their song “New Low” to a now defunct Sacramento alternative rock station (KWOD) for the local show. The powers that be thought the song was good, and it was. “New Low” became the most popular song of ’08 according to a an on-line listener poll. The band sold out every show they played in NorCal, generating a huge following.”

The notoriety has certainly helped. The band was soon signed to Warner Music /Bright Antenna records. So, the in theory, the band has quickly gone from a “New Low” to a new high, playing for crowds across the country.

Rubin: “They became “buddies” during ’08 as KWOD ”adopted” them, had them in for interviews and played the station’s holiday shows. The first time I saw them was at a tiny club called The Boardwalk. If you like Jane’s Addiction, RATM, and any band that BRINGS IT – you’ll like MC Rut. I rank the first live show I saw in my top ten concerts ever. And this was with less than 500 people in attendance!”
