My Most Beloved Songs Of 2010

arcadefire1 My Most Beloved Songs Of 2010

Arcade Fire "The Suburbs"

As I sit here and prepare myself to bid a fond adieu to 2010, I am looking back on the music that shaped my year and my heart is swelling with nostalgia.

After a decade of musical lovers, I must say, 2010 has been one of the best in the sack, meaning that it was astoundingly good. I had many eargasms and soulgasms and gasms of every kind listening to these songs and never once did I want them to end.

I am going to attempt to sum up my favorite songs of 2010. If anything, these are the songs that stand-out because they either remind me of a beloved memory, some epic event that took place this year, or a memory I shared with my friends in which one of these songs played a huge role.

So here they are, in no particular order…

“We Used To Wait” – Arcade Fire

*
“Bloodbuzz Ohio” – The National

*

“Pursuit of Happiness” – Lissie

*

“99 Problems” – Hugo

*

“Dance Yrslf Clean” – LCD Soundsystem

*

“Nightmare” – Avenged Sevenfold

*
“Little Lion Man” – Mumford and Sons

*

“Angela Surf City” – The Walkmen

*

“Down By The Water – The Drums

*

“Real Life” – Tanlines

*

“Die Slow” – Health

*

“O.N.E.” – Telephoned

*

“The Naked And Famous (Chitty Bang Remix)” – Young Blood

*

“Memories” – David Guetta w/ Kid Cudi

*

“Ambling Alp” – Yeasayer

*

“Cyanide” – Bad Religion

*

“The Sound” – Switchfoot

*

“Sing” – My Chemical Romance

*

“Animal” – Neon Trees

*

“Fader” – The Temper Trap

*

“Home” – Edward Sharpe And The Magnetic Zeros

*

“Empathy” – Crystal Castles

*
“Glitter Freeze” – Gorillaz

*

“Waiting For The End” – Linkin Park

*

“The Only One” – The Black Keys

*

“Beat The Devils’s Tattoo” – B.R.M.C.

*

“New Low” – Middle Class Rut

*

“Salt In The Wound” – Delta Spirit

*

“Airplanes” – Local Natives

*
“Burn It Down” – AWOLNATION

*

* “Half Light II” by Arcade Fire gets the award for song that almost made my heart explode.

Of course these are only a few songs taken from my fondest memories of 2010. There are countless others, all which left there mark on this beautiful rollercoaster of a year, and to all those other songs I say… THANK YOU. 2010 was unforgettable because of you.

Yeah Lightning, why don’t the business people stop being jerks and let people outside the US listen to the stream without jumping through hoops? Seems silly to craptalk someone when KROQ is the one who won’t let them listen to the online stream.

Crap talk? No. Was merely letting Dan know that we are streaming and there are indeed ways of faking your IP address if you want KROQ. CBS decided to geo block earlier this year. They prevented over a hundred stations from being heard outside the US. Bummer indeed.

Great list, and thank you for giving a shout out to Local Natives. Most people put out the simple and and safe mainstream song, so it’s good to see someone is mixing it up. Have a Happy New Year!

I’d agree 2010 was a very diverse year, but nothing blew me away as being defining… nothing like when Nirvana’s Nevermind came out… but that’s like talking about Michael Jordan… it’s in a legendary class of their own. However, as diverse as it was, I still thought that radio (in general, not just KROQ) failed to capture that diversity and instead, rehashed songs from bands of the moment. I am glad that KROQ denied some songs adequate airplay, like that horrid Weezer single, Memories. Also, the addition of Jonesy’s Jukebox is just fantastic. With that said, these songs still left an impact on me (some carried over from before 2010):

Passion Pit – The Reeling
Avenged Sevenfold – Nightmare
Florence+The Machine – Dog Days Are Over
Mastodon – Oblivion
Sleigh Bells – Rill Rill
Lykke Li – Get Some
Walk Alone – The Roots
Got Nuffin – Spoon

“…just go and throw your little hands up.” -LCD Soundsystem. So sExY sweet Nicole…That’s a New Years track for sures! Yeah, 2010 was another one of those years. Those years where the music just comes from out of nowhere even though its all been here the whole time, just not through the loudspeaker. Dig your tunes Mz. Alvarez. My list is definitely soaking with 2010 artists that rocked my heart and my memories. Check!

Interpol – Success
The XX – Crystalized
White Rabbits – Percussion Gun
The Black Keys – The Only One
Broken Bells – The High Road
Arcade Fire – The Suburbs
The Asteroids Galaxy Tour – Bad Fever
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Poor Song
INXS – Never Tear Us Apart
Matt & Kim – Daylight
Vampire Weekend – Cousins
Phoenix – Lisztomania
Neon Trees – Animal
Muse – Undisclosed Desires
Sleigh Bells – Ring Ring
LCD Soundsystem – Drunk Girls (Lindsay, you “Milk-Aholic!)
Hot Chip – Over and Over
Crash Kings – Mountain Man
The Dead Weather – I Cut Like a Buffalo
Cage the Elephant – In One Ear
Deftones – You’ve Seen the Butcher
Franz Ferdinand – Lucid Dream
Gorillaz – Stylo
Slightly Stoopid – 2 a.m.
The Dirty Heads – Stand Tall
Florence + The Machine – Dog Days Are Over
The Smashing Pumpkins – The Fellowship
Hole – Samantha
Adam Ant – Beat Your Guest (Ask Sluggo. He knows what its all about.)

…And so on and so fourth. I even have the same artists just other tracks of theirs. Like the DJ Pimptress says…Countless… You know how to touch hearts woman. You touched me…well, my heart. :P Keep ‘em lit wonderful lady! Happy New Years!!! 2011…is it so! “With a raised glass and a respectful nod…SALUTE!”

The National’s new album is so gut-wrenchingly good.

Just heard the Coachella spot and facepalmed when every band got a song snippet representation except The National, haha. Any plans on giving them some air time? :D
