Mark Wahlberg, looking all swoll as The Fighter.

In this week’s Movie Beat, I review The Fighter, The Tempest, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and The Tourist.

The Fighter:

Mark Wahlberg stars at Micky Ward, scrappy fighter extraordinaire. If you’re a boxing fan at all, you know that name from his legendary fights with Arturo Gatti.

This film is about [Ward's] relationship with his brother, Dicky (Christian Bale], who’s also a boxer who became a trainer, who was also a horrible junkie. One of the best dramas of the year.

I’m a sucker for a boxing movie, so I can’t wait to check out The Fighter this weekend!

The Tempest:

Helen Mirren stars in this film, along with Felicity Jones and Djimon Hounsou.

Prospera (Mirren), the rightful Duchess of Milan is exiled to a remote island with her young daughter, Miranda (Jones), and, of course, exerting her influence over the island, Prospera develops a new enemy, the slave, Caliban (Hounsou), who looks to raise rebellion against her.

[There's] a lot of action, and bloodletting, and intrigue, and violence – give it a chance.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader:

This is, of course, from the book series The Chronicles of Narnia. Tilda Swinton stars in this film, along with Ben Barnes and Liam Neeson.

This is when Lucy and Edmund return to Narnia with their cousin, Eustice, where they meet up with Prince Caspian for a trip across the sea, aboard the royal ship, The Dawn Treader. They encounter dragons, dwarfs, mer-folk, and a band of lost warriors before reaching the end of the world.

The Tourist:

Johnny Depp, Paul Bettany, Angelina Jolie – good stuff. Depp plays and American traveler in Venice, who finds himself hooked up with a beautiful, mysterious woman, Elise (Jolie). She turns out to be an Interpol agent.

There’s a dangerous connection to a fugitive criminal, and he gets sucked into this twisted plot. He doesn’t know what’s going on. He is a fish out of water – he’s the tourist. I can’t wait to see this film.
