This 21st Annual KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas, hop on Santa’s sleigh, shine up Rudolph’s nose for a little ambiant light and go down under with the sweet, euphoric sound of Aussie, alternative-rock sweethearts, The Temper Trap.

The Temper Trap rose to fame in Australia, catching the attention of old-school alternative rock devotees and embittered music critics after they played St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival in 2006. After winning over indie crowds at SXSW and garnering a BBC nod as top 15 Sound of 2009 with their plush, panoramic pop sound, The Temper Trap met up with producer Jim Abbiss and recorded the bulk of their album in late 2008, finishing it in March 2009. A few months later, the band moved to London to try and build a bigger fan base there. Their album, Conditions, was released that summer and the band followed it with a UK tour which saw most sold-out crowds. Singles like “The Science of Fear” became their first foray into the mainstream musical spotlight.

Their debut album on US label, Glassnote, is a gorgeous U2-esque romp into the classical guitar structures of original alternative rock, fused with the emotionalism of rousing tenor vocalists like Jeff Buckley. Comprised of Dougy Mandagi (vocals, guitar), Jonathon Aherne (bass guitar, vocals), Lorenzo Sillitto (guitar, keyboards, vocals) and Toby Dundas (drums, percussion), The Temper Trap evokes both the atmospheric, simple refrain of a courtly love song with the atmospheric afterglow of a night of raptured teenage heavy petting. Used in twee-indie film 500 Days of Summer, their hit radio single ”Sweet Disposition” is a good example of their sweeping, adolescent revelry.

Want to see if impassioned, wistful sound of Australia’s The Temper Trap, will bring you a little Christmas cheer i.e. an after-Acoustic make-out partner? Check them out at the sold-out KROQ’s 21st Annual Almost Acoustic Christmas, Sunday, December 12th at the Gibson Amphitheater!
