Today’s KROQ Flashback: The Aquabats “Super Rad”

Long before Christian Jacobs was Yo Gabba Gabba-ing it (say that out loud and watch a kid near you leap into the air for joy) he was a bat of the Aqua variety and yes, it does seems kinda odd now that KROQ played the hell out of this song for awhile back in 1997, but I always cranked it up in der studio when we did. And took on a caped villian or two.

Travis Barker leaving the Aquabats was clearly the best decision he ever made.

One of the great “novelty” songs of KROQ history! My very first AAC was 1997 -when these guys played. What stuck out to me was their introduction of the song “My Skateboard.” Why was it memorable you ask? (you did ask, didn’t you?) As a super-uber U2 fan I sat up and took note when they stated: “This next song is not a rebel song. This song is ‘Skateboard Bloody Skateboard’!”
Other great KROQ “novelty” songs:
Ogden Edsl : Kinko The Clown
Dash Rip Rock : Let’s Go Smoke Some Pot
Killer Pu$$y : Teenage Enema Nurses In Bondage (#50 on 1982′s Top 106.7 Songs of the year list)
**Any song by Richard Cheese** (I miss Paul the 55 Year Old Intern too!)
Toy Dolls : Nellie The Elephant
Dada : Dizz Knee Land
Mickey Avalon : Jane Fonda (I will never forgive Stryker for forcing this one upon us)
Squirrel Nut Zippers : Hell
King Missile : Detachable Peni$
Robert Roll : The Dog Boat (The best thirty second song ever played on KROQ?)
Swinging Erudites : Walk With An Erecti0n
Smart E’s : Sesame’s Treet
Josie Cotton : Johnny Are You Queer?
Julie Brown : The Homecoming Queen’s Got A Gun
Rodney on the Roq & The Tubes : I Hate the 90s
Video Kids : Woodpeckers In Space
Swedish Egil : Erotic Egil
Right Said Fred : I’m Too Sexy
Lewisidal Tendencies : Silent Night (I have my copy on the very first Kevin&Bean Christmas release… on vinyl!)
Liam Lynch : United States of Whatever
Frank and Moon Zappa : Valley Girl
and of course…
**Any song by They Might Be Giants**
I love it when SlugMonkey picks these songs that make me look through my iTunes.
Which ones have I forgotten??

Hey Vinnie,
I’m blown away that you have the album with the Lewisidal Tendencies : Silent Night. I’ve been looking for the album and song for years! I even emailed Kevin & Bean about it a few years back and the replied saying they didn’t remember it, but linked me to their Mistletunes site. Have you converted the album to digital? I’d would dig hearing the song.

Is this the first ever appearance of Luno from Yo Gabba Gabba?
