Last.fm Trends: End Of The Year For Interpol

Interpol played their final American show of 2010 in their home state at the weekend, wrapping up a year that has seen them release their fourth album, the self-titled Interpol.

The album dropped on September 7th so we figured it was time for the Last.fm Trends team to see how the album has fared among Last.fm listeners.

The album has accumulated an impressive total of 1,970,866 scrobbles so far. However despite it only having been released for two months it still has a long way to go to reach the 17,031,039 scrobbles currently held by Antics, the band’s second album.

With 353,596 scrobbles “Lights” is the clear leader of the pack, unsurprising given that it was available as a free download in May, way ahead of the album’s release.

“Barricade,” the first single proper and released in August along with the album, has already reached 286,774 scrobbles. It would have been interesting to see if it would have proven to be the most popular track on release had “Lights” not been available as a free download.

However, week-on-week listening stats for October has shown that “Barricade” is consistently gaining more listeners than “Lights”. On the week ending October 10th, the track was the most listened to Interpol track for that week with 8,224 listeners, all the while suggesting that within time it will most likely prove to be the most popular track on the album.
